I would try looking on driver sites like windrivers.com or driverguide.com . They usually have a ton of drivers, and since the audio driver is pretty common, I would think that they would have one for w2k3.

Another option is to get external speakers, or you could get a PCMCIA soundcard which will give you a better sound quality.

Hold it a second BT. Do you mean Windows 2003 server or Windows 2000?

Good point. I just assumed it was windows server.

If it is 2000, then dell has the drivers on their website. You just have to select it as the operating system.

yes i am talking about windows 2003 server. since there isn't a non server version of 2003 i just never think of adding that. i went ahead and put xp pro on there for now and will work on getting 2k3 on there later. when its all said and done i have to say it is nice. there are a few things i am not happy with but that is to be expected.

2003 is hard to get onto your average laptop. Mostly because it knows its being put onto a laptop and it will literally ask you why it is being thrown onto a laptop. I never did get it to work right on my old laptop. I had a few driver incompatibilites even. Most notably with my wireless card. I tried to put it on my old one for a while because its so wonderfully stable.

    Hi,

I got my 9400/1705 on Monday.

First thing I did was to clear the harddrive and put Windows 2003 Server (Standard) on it.

Driver installation seems a little bit tricky, but it's possible!
Currently I got all necessary drivers running...

    "How To: "
    - Get all the XP Drivers von the Dell website
    - install the video driver
    - install the broadcomm network driver
    - install the wlan (bluetooth) driver
    - install the chipset driver
    - select the audio device in the device manager and choose update driver from location "C:\dell\drivers\R114075\WDM" (thats the audio driver. don't use the setup here...)
    - install modem drivers...

    do a reboot.

after a reboot some new hardware is found. windows installs something...
    audio drivers are now working!

questions? feel free to contact me!

    bye,
