Does anyonw know if I can order a 9400 Inspiron with ONE 1GB RAM module instead of 2 512's? I would like to allow for easy upgrade. That lady I spoke with didn't seem to be sure, so she just said no.

    Thanks

Yes you can, it will cost you some extra monies and most of the time it's not worth it. I personally went with the 2x512's and intend to sell those and get me a 2x1024 set.

    Thanks for the reply!

Are you 100% sure, because I have just gotten told from another dell rep, that the RAM modules must be inserted in pairs on that board.

    Thanks

No, they're probably confused or something. You just won't run Dual-Channel mode which offers better performance when you have the same brand/speed and type of memory put in at the same time.

As for your question, you could just go with a 1x1024 module from Dell when placing your order instead of the 2x512 or you could take those 2x512 and if you're a person who doesn't mind dealing with people then you can sell it to a friend or anyone on the internet and buy your self a good pair of 1024 modules from the same brand and type to run in Dual-Channel mode properly so you could gain a bit of performance ;).
