Ordered my 9300 today 2ghz, 2 gig ram, 100gig hd, UXGA screen and Go 6800 video. Cost me just under $2k delivered with a travel case. Should be here in about 2 weeks.

Now I am having second thoughts that maybe I should have ponied up the extra coin for the XPS and 7800 video.

    What do other users think??

I am using this to replace my aging desktop (AMD 2500+, 1gig ram, 256mb Nvidia 6800GT, 19" CRT) going to give the desktop to my son. If the 9300 works out well I will not need another major upgrade till the VISTA products come out. Can anyone recommend a good external (portable) HD for keeping my games on? I do not want to clutter up the laptop with my games if I do not have to.

    Thanks,

    Dante

Well, I think you should have gone for a XPS instead. since your requirements sound like loads of gaming. im sure u'll get a XPS in the same price range.

i have a 9300 and its great. i dont think you will see a significant improvement over your desktop, though.

i also have a xps m170 getting fixed (hopefully). it blows the 9300 out the water with the 7800gtx.

if money is no object to you i would have went with the xps m170. but if you were planning to get another laptop when windows vista comes out anyway, the 9300 will be perfect until then.

well you sound like a gamer so i think you should've gotten the xps. dont get me wrong tho the 9300 is a good gaming machine, but if you are totally into gaming, then the xps would've been perfect.

I just sent through a cancellation notice to Dell and asked them to re-quote me on the XPS system with 7800 GTX card and all the goodies.

On another note I found a XPS600 desktop in the Dell Outlet this morning for $2099 with dual 7800 GTX SLI cards, but I decided to pass on that for now.

As for the hard drive, it is usually cheaper to buy a hard drive and case. There is usually a hard drive deal at SlickDeals or FatWallet.

Darn it. I can't seem to get the 30% coupon to work. The $350 one will though... Were you able to get it for the better price?

You have to call into Dell and order your system and they can over-ride the system and apply the 30% off. I am still waiting to order untill the next couple of weeks.

Should have bought RAM from newegg. 2 1 gig sticks of kingston RAM costs me about $200. Last i checked Dell wants $400 for the 2 gig option.

    It was $275 less 30% =$192.50 extra

The only thing I skrimped on was the CPU. Couldn't see paying an additional $500-30% for an additional .26ghz

You got the 30% coupon to work? I'd probably order one today if I could get the 30% off.

    As stated above......
You have to call into Dell and order your system and they can over-ride the system and apply the 30% off.

I am actually considering buying an XPS 600 desktop as well and I should be able to use the Dimension 30% coupon for that.
