I'm having a change of heart! I purcharsed a 6000 from dell on 8/3/05. But the more I look at the 9300 the more I fall in love. The main reason I shyed away from the 9300 at first was b/c of the size and weight. But I just did a compairision of the two and the 9300 is only 1 pd heavier. The 9300 has the TrueLife screen which I LOVE. I want to know what everyone else's experiences have been. It's really difficult for me to make these kinds of choices when I can't see or touch the product. Any advice you can give is greatly appreciated!!!
Thanks!!

Amy, if you live near a mall that has one of those Dell carts I believe they'll have the i9300 on display. Also, the TrueLife screen isn't the same as a glossy screen if that's what you're thinking (some people are fooled by that term). If you're not carrying your notebook around a whole lot I suppose the 9300 would be a fine choice, but 1lb is going to make a difference if you're carrying something around. I don't own the 9300 but I'm sure others will chime in.

I recently purchased a i6000d with the wsxga screen. At first the size of the notebook seemed a little big but after a few minutes it looked right. I have been impressed with its performance (730) and the qualilty of the screen.

Dell's UltraSharp is their name for wide viewing angle technology, which has been a standard in their screens for a few years. Are you thinking of UltraSharp when you say that?
The 9300 has a heavier power supply than the 6000, too, if weight is a concern. If you don't move it around all the time or you only really use it on a desk, then you won't notice much and you'll be happy with the larger screen.
People around me laughed when I got a big IXPS-G2. It weighs less than my old 8100, largely because of one battery rather than two, so I'm happy even if it is big and heavy (it's got another pound on the 9300). -
Posts like this make me shake my head, like it's the end of the world unless the member gets help. You can either wait til you get your current order and then decide to keep it or not. Or you can order the 9300 now, so you can get the current sale, and then compare the two and return the one you don't want.
Let me also explain something else, 1lb does NOT make a difference. I know, as I have had the 6000, 9300, and XPS Gen 2. The difference that you WILL notice is the bulkier size of the 9300. If you plan on using a laptop in tight places (subway, bus, airplane) frequently, then you'll want to stick with the 6000. It'll be much easier to handle. -
howdoggy74, that is what these forums are for...to help users, no matter what the issue is as long as it is computer related. If you can only give criticism and not advice, then don't post.
And I know that 1lb doesn't sound much, but it does make a difference to a girl. As for which is better, I like the 6000. The 9300 is great, but it is huge and like abaxter said, it might not be the best for portability. There is some messenger type bags that you can get like PowersleeveXL from Booq.com or the Tekmod from Tekstyl (tight fit though) which will ease the weight of the 9300.

While both computers are great, you have to ask yourself what you want and what you are going to do with it. The main reason to get the i9300 over the i6000 is because of 1) the 256 GeForce 6800, and 2) the 17 in. screen. As a gaming, I fell in love with the i9300, and have enjoyed every minute that I have had mine. I don't notice that extra weight to much, because I'm used to carrying much heavier bags around. While it is portabile enough for me (I'm a college student), I can see where someone who wants to pull their laptop out on the subway may have a few problems. Try out both of them if you want to, because it is really up to you what you want. Anytime you are going to be spending this kind of money on a product, you should get what you like best and what you want. Also, the messenger type bags idea works great, and I recommend it. Post any questions you like, I'm sure any of us would be glad to help in any way we can.

i was going to buy the i6000 but then i figured out the screen wasnt glossy. that really bummed me out. so i had to go for the i9300. but there is a big difference in between. i9300 is somewhat a gaming laptop so i was happy that i bough that instead of the i6000.

Get the 9300. 6000 is nice but 9300 is much better for the money and with the 17 inch screen, it is a steal when used with $750 coupon like I did. :750:
With my skills of dealing with customer service , I was able to get the 9300 with same specs as the 6000 plus I get a 256 meg video card and 2 years warranty for an extra $79.00 bucks. IMO, that is money very well-spent
Also, don't tell yourself that "oh I am not a gamer and I don't care about the 256 meg video card..." and ordered the 128 card (though it is a very nice card). Get the 256 meg. Even if you're not a gamer, just get the 256 card... -
Get the 9300, you wont be sorry!! Abaxter is incorrect "true life" screens on Dells ARE GLOSSY SCREENS.
But enough about that, really WXGA resolution is all you need but that is another story. I have the Ultrasharp WXGA+ on the 9300, it's plenty bright.
The 9300 is only half an inch deeper and an inch wider and a pound heavier than the 6000. Anyone who thinks a pound is going to kill you is either crazy or seriously weak or hasnt usde the 9300 or all of the above???
Anyhow, with a 750 off coupon you can get either the 6000 or the 9300 loaded and the price difference between these two systems is only a hundred dollars, maybe less depending on what you want.
For the extra size and weight, (again, this is a very marginal difference)
you get a bigger screen, the nvidia 6800 go card with 256 megs of memory. Two more USB ports and a DVI output as well as a built in subwoofer which dramatically improves the notebooks sound. Now sure this may seem more than you need ? but when buying a notebook, more now means less regret later and better future proof protection if there can even be such a thing.
Considering what you get in the 9300 for about the same price point as the 6000, coupled with the fact that the 6000 doesnt offer much performance with a decent video card its a no brainer.
I have used both systems and carry my 9300 to work everyday, walking the lenght of a football field from car to office. After a few days of use I cant imagine using a laptop with a smaller screen. -
This poster is right, its best to get the most powerful video card available even if you are not a gamer, ( Im a gamer but I dont use my laptop for gaming). Remember that web pages are more and more graphical, movies and streaming video will also benefit from the extra power in your GPU. -
Well put, conghelach! The 9300 is all that and a bag of chip
-
Agreed, you wont find any 9300 owners with buyers remorse if they got the 6800 card.
The same cannot be said of the 6000 or other dell models -
with regards to power supply being heavier, not soo, both systems use the same rated power supply as do the d810 and M70, they all weigh the same......Power Supplies that is.
The 9300 willl give you a larger screen, subwoofer that dramatically improves sound, the 256 meg video card that can handle anything you throw at it, the 6000's x300 128 meg card with some shared memory is basic at best, cant play the latest games, really 128 is a bare minimum video card spec these days never mind six months from now. Food for thought. Especially when you consider that you can have these models for the same price, give or take 50 to 75 dollars.
