    Hey all

This is my first summer with my dell 9300, it was purchased in december. Today the temps hit the 30 celcius mark for the first time in the summer and my laptop is really hot. I have I8Kfangui and notebook hardware control installed, but i have some questions regarding the heat

    1) at what temp should I start getting worried? I'm getting about 65's rougly when playing WOW.

    2) can i set either program to turn on the fans to cool it down to a certain temp

    3) my power bar is also very warm, more so than I've ever noticed. it's usually close to my head cause i plug my laptop in a jack behind the couch and it gets strung over top of my couch.

    4) is there anything else I can do to reduce temps without purchasing anything?

    5) also, the area immediatly above the keyboard, along the strip where the power button is, is very warm to the touch. is this normal>

    thanks!

Dude, the Apples get around 60 and wellllllllll up(some even in the 90's). So don't worry thats normal. When it burns you, you should maybe start to worry. My Toshiba burns me, and it's still fine.

yea, I wouldn't worry, my Inspiron 6000 gets up to about 67 C and 64 C for the CPU and GPU respectively. That is playing Guild Wars at max setting. Doing basic tasks the CPU fluctuates from 28 - 32 C and the GPU from 35 - 45 C. I did add arctic silver to my notebook though and I do use a cooling pad.

Oh yea, I think you can use fangui to control the temps and quick the fans on at a certaint time.

Oh yea, and you can try undervolting your CPU if you want to reduce temperatures.

Yep, but if you are only getting 65 while gaming, I personally wouldn't. But if you want to and think you should(I personally don't think you should, because for gaming thats rather cool actually) then by all means go ahead.

30 Degrees C? I would consider those to be -Low- temperatures. My desktop CPU for instance idles at around 43'c. Under load it gets up to 53'C.

30'C is nothing to worry about.

my 9300's CPU never gets above 50 C becuase at that temp i have it turn the fan on fast which drops it down to the 30's. i also have a undervolted chip running at 1.1 v at 2 GHz. my GPU runs kind of hot, idling at 53 C and getting up to low 70's when iam playing a game, but my 6800 is also overclocked.

CPU can easily hit 100. GPU Ati x700 works fine at 120. Not for long though. So undervolting can bring your temps down while gaming. I reckon 5-15 degrees C. I did an article about Pentium M undervolting, so you are welcome to try it. Check my sig.

    Cheers,
    Ivan

Make sure you keep the air vents free of dust and make sure you clean them out with compressed aor weekly

I wouldn't worry about it. 30 isn't too bad from what I've heard. I have no idea my computer gets on average, but I do know that about a year ago, I was playing a game on it and it got so hot that it actually started to slow down to a bog, so I had to turn it off quickly and let it cool down before something messed up! I turned it over and it was so hot it burned my hand. I immediately went out and bought a cooling fan, which I continued to use for a good two or three months. But I have not used it since, and I've been fine. Sorry to hijack your thread with my story. :D I just felt it was pertinent (sp?) to the situation.
