I am a 9300 owner myself, but Jaoan has just freshened up the Sony A series- a simply fantstic computer but one that is pretty high priced but check this out:

    http://www.laptoplogic.com/news/04/14/2005/181/0/

    The VGN-A63 includes a 17-inch LCD, Pentium M 750 (1.86GHz), 512MB DDR2, 100GB HD, 915PM Chipset, ATI MOBILITY RADEON X600 (256MB/HyperMemory) and DL DVD burner. The unit measures 405.5×280.1×42.2 - 45.2mm, and weigh approximately 3.94kg. Prices range from $1,900 to $2,200 U.S.

Still a little pricier than the 9300 but a Japanese made computer (versus Malaysia for Dell) and arguably a better built unit. I am waiting for my 2nd 9300 since my first was out of box failre. This forum hs WAYYY to many out of box failures for the 9300. Not saying Sonys wont but their laptops have gottn MUCH better over the past couple of years and I think their past reputation still haunts them.

    Woth wiating for 2-3 months?

I had the Sony...better in a couple ways...worse in others.

    Sony advantages:
    -Screen brightness and contrast.
    -Fantastic keyboard

    Dell advantages:
    -Better battery life
    -Faster GPU with more memory
-Lighter weight (over a pound lighter)
    -Easier to open screen

The final thing that tipped the balance toward Dell was the weird color balance of the Sony screen. I was unable to calibrate it to neutral. This killed it for photo editing. Also they colors shifted much worse than on most modern LCDs...especially left to right.
