Hello. I currently own a inspiron 9300 and have bios a03 installed into it. I plan to upgrade to Windows Vista when it comes out and have researched websites about upgrading to it. In the dell website, they have drivers for a bios upgrade to a05 which is said to support Vista. I have heard many problems with that bios such as slowing down the fans to the point that temperature becomes a factor during regular computing. Dell states that the minimal fan usage was implemented in order to save battery life. I was wondering if I would have to upgrade to this bios in order to run vista? I don't want to encounter any problems due to temperature with my laptop yet, I want to be able to use Vista. Any suggestions? Thanks for reading. :)

You will probably have to. I've already read reports that some BIOS are problematic with Vista and require updates.

However, if temperatures are a problem read through the Cooling Guide and track down the program called ik8fangui. It has the ability to control the fan speeds on Dell machines so you can override any BIOS fan control you aren't happy with.

I'd wait until Vista hits SP1 though...by then major bugs will be squashed and more mature programs (like ik8fangui) will be available for Vista.
