14x9 is the native (highest) res for wxga on a 17" lcd

if you want a higher res you have to go wuxga (19x12)

since your sig says your lcd is a wxga, then 14x9 is native for you and it should NOT be stretching out "weird" at all... it should look nice and perfect.

You can't go higher than the native resolution other than to buy one with higher resolution.

From your signature, it looks like you just received your 9300. Return it and get the WUXGA version. It's only $125 more and you'll get a lot higher resolution.

i'm not sure which i9300 laptop screen did you get, but if you have the same as me which is the highest one with the truelife, then i set mine to the highest or the second highest. cuz everything else just looks crappy since like you said they are stretched out.

that's weird, both of your wxgas should be perfect as its the native res. anything OTHER than 14x9 should look "weird" and "stretched out"

    maybe your settings are off?

If you think the 1400x900 stretches things really weird, perhaps you need to set it to normal DPI??
I can tell you one thing, any higher resolution is only going to stretch things even more.

maybe i'm not understanding what you mean by "stretching"... can you post a screencap? this goes for wxga or wsxga or wuxga.

what exactly is "stretching" ? an image? a website? wallpaper?

there really should be no distortion when running your native resolution

i bet a nice good formatting would do wonders for the screen. i bet one of the dell's software screwed some pictures up and websites.

I think he may be talking about the desktop background (which were made for 4:3)...yes, if it is set to full screen, it is stretched. That's what I have experienced. So far, nothing else has been "stretched" on the widescreen.

wiow, didn't know everyone was so interested... ok.. once i get home i'll post a pic..., i got the basic screen from dell...

and before the picture is posted: by stretching i mean pictures in internet explorer and other programs.. the pictures are stretched and pixelated (by pictures i mean things like, for example, the notebook review logo...)

i don't really mind the stretching... just curious

like conghelach said, if its just in internet explorer you might need to change the dpi.
