It's not appropiate to begin with that I can't express what my experience was and get considerate normal responses,if any! Start right here and don't say anything to me if you have no interest, please! This is meant to start fresh with no vicious comments or any problems. Only comments if you want to,politely please!
My issue is described a few posts down. It's made me sad with reason.

Thanks for ruining something I tried to be decent with. That was so unfair since I posted this at least a half hour before your post. I made a Thank you comment to gargoyle and this is what I get now.
After I post this I see a post from southergirl (amber) that I never received or saw before I did this hoping for peace and doing something to stop it.
I was going to transfer and did all the decent, considerate people. To start fresh and not let the people that were nice be ignored.
The thread needed to be locked and I can thank You for doing that for me. Don't let people post like they did before. Thanks again for locking it for me!!!

heartofgold, sorry to hear..maybe they sent you another customers used laptop by mistake...especially if you say it had keyboard crumbs and scratches..
I have a 9300 myself. Ive had it since the end of March and so far so good. Mine was obviously brand new and ive had no problems whatsoever with any of the components or the computer itself and im VERY satisfied. The only thing I noticed now is that the INSPIRON writing on the back of the LCD is slowly starting to fade staring on the two I and the first N but thats usually cause when I carry my laptop around the house my hand is always there and I get sweaty palms often on so I think that might be due to it, just rubbing the ones starting to fade already make em disappear faster. But no loss really cause I never really did like the writing there, I may actually just rub the rest off since it will look better heh!
Hope you get the issue resolved!

This is what I found when I opened my notebook.
No Quality and Junk!!! My 2nd 9300 and I thought the first one was bad because it had a defective display. That was it . No big deal, exchange it! Yeah right! This one has tons of small, quite a few 1 inch scratches and 5 very long large scratches all over it .The hinge is broken and will fall off if moved right now. The TrueLife on this one is horrible and full of thousands of grainy speckles all over it. My borrowed TrueLife's were exceptional. I would never expected to see what Dell just sent to me. JUNK! The metal under the hinge/cover is distorted and bent severely. Not a tiny bit! It'll cut you and did already. Immediately 2 fingers gashed. The first thing I felt was it gash/cut me from sharp sticking out metal/plastic whatever it is (felt like metal). It's sticking out! Then I saw all the scratches like It's been used at least a year. There's much more!!! The touchpad is warped where you can see it just like that and distorted also. tThe touchpad has up and down hills all overy it. It's also not smooth like all the others. It feels like It's made out of something horrible. The keyboard is filled with all kinds of dirt. 2 keys from the keyboard were in the bottom of the box,not able to be put back on.
There's more and I will fill in more later and give more details. Right now I'm sickened by this. Dell's quality control is so bad, which I already knew . This computer would not be worth more than $400/$500........new!
I had two of the 9300's and a 6000 loaned to me with no problems except the DVD player/Recorder. I have been going through this since March. Most who know me or hate me know that I need it as a lifeline.
P.S If you're worried about the resolution it never bothered me and I never have seen light leakage or the sparkle effect (that's not what I'm describing above). The so called glare was never an issue and I never noticed it!
What I just opened and set up anyway (it took a technician 7 hours) .I'm Stupid because It's going back but I wanted to see what else was wrong with it. I put my IP through hell with the wireless card because it is defective. It was set up to connections all over the place to see if it was the Intel 2200 card or just a problem. My IP does not do this for people free not using Linksys. They are incredible to me. A surprise the way people are in this world and always out to make money. Which is what Dell just tried to do.
This couldn't pass QC and yet they let it. These are highly noticable defects ,not just flaws. I was cut in two minutes pretty bad,not a tiny little scratch. Deep with a sharp bent piece of metal under the top by the hinge. If you're holding it closed it was sticking out the back by the under the hinge.
If someone told me this was their 2nd one and with problems like this, it would go back and not exchanged. Dell makes millions of computers that go out the door with no problems. Not my last three!!! Since early February nothing but pure torture with dell Desktops and notebooks . The ones I borrowed were nice except the DVd problems but not spectacular. The 6000 was the best out of all borrowed. I've been a Dell person since my first PC. Not now. I used to tell everyone to get them and the sick thing is that I probably still would. I had really bad luck but mnothing compared to the amount they sell.
I would not ever let anyone pay more than $1200 for a notebook and $1000 for a Desktop and not with the basic configuration either. It would have to have some pretty good upgrades. They are cheap and you get what you pay for but for what I just received if "new" and never used I would pay $400-$500.
To let you now I also bought the Averatec PM 4000 series last Thursday and returned it Friday because the DVD drive was flimsy and I knew it would cause problems. Everything else was sturdy, well built and pretty good features. I don't believe the case would have cracked but my instincts said the DVD player was way too flimsy.
You should see what I have now!!! Dell let this out the door with every single thing visible. It's not like you had to look hard to come up with anything. Actually, I didn't even check for broken pixels or look at it closely yet at all. This was all seen at a quick 2 minute glance, looking over after cutting my 2 fingers.

I am not posting anything to this thread so anything you see here with my name is some kind of spoof from here on out. The above post from me was in the other thread.

To anyone reading this you must remember the enormous number of computers Dell ships and the small number described here. This does not deminish the problems described here butprobably is more an indication of extreme bad luck rather than some kind of systematic stuff. Also I assume that the computer business is the same now as it was before meaning that field replacements are not necessarily NEW units and may be reworked units which may have been returned. It turns out that if you even open the cardboard then can't sell the thing as new anymore I think. I have a 9300 and beside the inspiron word on the hinge it is one of the best computers I have owned. We also use Dell at work and I have never heard of them sending anything back other than from use. There are notebooks desktops the whole thing.
That said this doesn't help this case unfortunately.

JJD,

I hacked up a mouse padfor the left side as I didn't want my watch to chop up the case, seems to work. As far as the discoloration goes I collect small german cameras which have a finish similar to this. They all get discolored and I have found that Simple Green (a cleaner available in any grocery store) takes it right off. I then take the remaining cleaner off with Windex. Works on 30 year old cameras should work here assuming what you see is a greenish dark stain. I would not spray the stuff on the computer but rather on a cloth and clean that way. The cameras are so small I use a Q-Tip but some cloth should work.

Heart,
Sorry to hear about the problems with your "new" 9300. If I understand your post correctly, you are getting your money back correct? At least you aren't going to be stuck with it.
I'm actually pretty happy with my 9300 (minus the few mishaps I've had). My biggest problems are the area where it says dell on the screen gets really hot and also the wrist area turning discolored. I thought about getting wrists rests for laptops (i saw some called jellywrists or something, but not sure how good they are). Anyone using removable wrist rests?

Does anyone have complaints about the touchpad keys? They drive me insaine....
to our female viewers who read this who are thinking about getting the 9300...if you get your nails done all the time, you won't have a problem using the keyboard on here by the way.

yassarian (if you see this) -- I sent you an email a few days back and never got a response, if you could email me at [email protected] I had a question for you.

my biggest complaint with the touchpad keys on the i6000 and I'm assuming they're the same or similar on the i9300 (which i have never used) is that they're not raised enough. I probably go on a bit too much about IBM, but the way they design their trackpoint navigation mouse buttons is cool because you can really feel the buttons due to the way they're raised. not sure if these pics do much justice, but what the heck...

[?] exactly how are we off topic? You wrote a complaint about the 9300, We were all stating complaints/problems/comments that we've had with 9300...so its all about the 9300 and problems with dell (which is what your orginal post was related to). If you want something specific, then I suggest asking questions because your orginial post is only a complaint and there is nothing really to give advice on. You said you were sending it back and you were wanting a fujitsu, so it seems like you've solved your own problem.
[edit] okay, just making sure. I thought you might have a question or something that we were missing

To update all of you. It was not an error being sent to me assuming it might have been someone elses,so they say. I did look it over beforeit was packed back up and I found that one of the vents had an extreme amount of dust in it. One other a tiny bit. More scratches . Quite alot of broken or what ever you call it pixels. Lots of little black dots all over the display on a white backround and different on dark. I looked it over pretty good and found so much more. The bottom black seal was pealing and if you rubbed it it just peeled more and more. There are other things but I think enough was listed/mentioned. All the first things mentioned were without looking for anything. I was gashed quite deeply (I'm diabetic so and these were deep otherwise I wouldn't have mentioned a scratch or minor cut) through two fingers when I opened it taking it out of the box at the same time in th 2 miutes seeing so much of what I mentioned in a quick 2 -5 minute look. I will add that the warped, bumpy, oddly textured touchpad is of no use to anyone but it looked new,not used! I wonder about the keys in the bottom of the box and what good the keyboard would be since they were not able to be put back on. They were broken.
I still believe it was a returned PC. It was not even refurbished. I don't know what Dell will find when they get it back.
I was given (I asked, insisted for something but expected nothing less than $150 in cash not credit for the site) only $100 dollars in cash and $75 in products for my troubles because I still own a semi new 8400 Desktop that I went through quite a bit of torture with, purchased in February I believe.
Still sad and disappointed, just not shocked like I was! [V][ ][V]
