Thanks to all the suggestions that I have received from this site, I have decided that the 9300 will be a good laptop, based on my needs. If any one remembers me from my previous posts, I will be starting college in the Fall, and I am looking forward to purchasing a computer for basic needs (internet, word processing, a few games)

    I have chosen this configuration:

    Intel® Pentium® M Processor 730 (1.60 GHz/2MB Cache/533MHz FSB)
    Microsoft Windows XP Professional
2Yr Ltd Warranty, 2Yr At-Home Service, and 2Yr Technical Support
    17 inch UltraSharp™ Wide Screen XGA+ Display
    512MB Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 533MHz 2 Dimm
    60GB Hard Drive
    8x CD/DVD burner
    64MB ATIs™ Mobility Radeon™ X300
FREE 64MB Dell USB Memory Key w/ 9-cell Lithium Ion Primary Battery
    Intel® PRO/Wireless 2200 Internal Wireless (802.11 b/g, 54Mbps)

    Sub-total $1,274.00
    Tax $106.72

    Total Price $1,380.72

Any comments on the price/configuration. I need the laptop for the end of August, but I want to have a couple of weeks to get used to it before school starts.

Should I expect certain price drops/ sales over the summer or is it safe to say that the $750 off coupon is the best we'll see.

    Thanks for any help!

that's a lotta money...dont get it rite now..cuz i got the 1.86 GHz processor, windows XP home, 2Yr Ltd Warranty, 2Yr At-Home Service, and 2Yr Technical Support, 17 inch UltraSharp™ Wide Screen XGA+ Display, 512MB Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 533MHz 2 Dimm, 80GB Hard Drive, the CD burner and DVD rom combo drive, 256 MB NVidia GeForce Go, a 6-cell battery, and the Intel® PRO/Wireless 2200 Internal Wireless (802.11 b/g, 54Mbps)...wit a subtotal of $1400...and the tax was like $100...and my total was $1510 or sumting like that...so i do think that that's a lot..but if u need it now..then u should get it...and wen u say a few games..i think u should get at least the 128 MB ATI Mobility Radeon X300 ...cuz if ur not gonna get that...then i would suggest in getting the Dell 6000...as it will b more portable and u could get it 4 prob. a cheaper price than the 9300

    LuckMC11,

How long ago did you purchase your 9300? Also, when do you think it would be a good time for me to buy?

I believe I read something about Dell dropping prices in the suumer because of new technology. Has anyone heard anything about this?

i dont think that they will drop...cuz their new technology will come out early next year...that's y their $750 off coupons are soo frequent rite now..and notebooknewbie...2 answer u question...it's in my signature...i ordered it on June 14 and received it on June 21st[ :D]...the best time 2 buy could onli b answered by checking the prices often like every day if u can or every other day...cuz the $750 coupon codes onli work 4 specific e-value code laptops..not the regular 1's u could configure if u go 2 dell home and then laptops and then the laptop u wanna confgure...b4 like 2-3 weeks ago b4 i ordered...the lowest price i could get it 2 w/o that warranty and w/o the 80 GB hard drive was $1586 w/o tax...and then wen i ordered i got a good deal..but now wen i checked...it costs so much more...onli like $20 more...but i want that $20..lol...so my answer is 2 jus keep checking..i no it's annoying...but i would rather do it then pay an exra like $300

I don't know if the prices are going to continue to drop thru the summer or not. I bought mine in April and it cost 3000 without the 750 coupon. Today, the same specs and accessories cost 1800 without the coupon.

Just a suggestion: Ram at Dell is very expensive. You would be better off just getting 256, and going to newegg.com and buying sticks there. Alot of users (including me) have gotten transcend 1GB and right now you can get it for $101 (the price keeps dropping on it)
    SG~

Thank You for all the feedback regarding my decision. I constantly hear people reccomending newegg.com for the Ram upgrade as opposed to Dell, however I have never owned a notebook and I am not familiar with installing Ram. Is it a simple task? If it is not difficult, I will be more than willing to do this.

Its very simple. All you have to do is remove two screws, and pull out the old cards and install the new ones. Here are the instructions
It probably took me 15 minutes, if that, to switch them out, and I've never installed them on laptops either. I've only worked on Desktops.
