    Hi,

So I just recently got myself an Inspiron 9300 and love the machine! :D

However, the default display settings were far to bright and so I changed them to my own tastes. All was well till I decided to try playing a game, in this case Return to Castle Wolfenstein. While the machine handles this game with ease I found my display settings caused the game to be too dark even though I set the brightness to full within the game. I don't want to reset the settings within windows cause I find the brightness and colour to be just fine for use in windows such as browsing, etc.

I was just wondering what settings u guys are using? My display is currently set as follows:

    Digital Vibrance: Off
    Brightness: 86%
    Contrast: 89%
    Gamma: 0.94

    Any comments, suggestions appreciated

Why wouldn't you just use the function keys to turn the brightness up a little for the game and then back down? It's like four total button presses, I can't imagine that's too inconvenient.

Ahhh, so you're looking for higher than maximum eh, well that's a new challenge entirely.

Well the hardware is set to maximum and at the moment I am controlling everything through software via the Display properties control panel. I guess if I was to set everything to max there then the game would be ok but then it would be too bright during normal windows use.

    That's the main problem basically

Is there a gamma setting in the game you can adjust?

ccbr01 - BIOS is set to full

Thomas - I set the game to maximum brightness.

I think the problem is more finding the right balance of settings in the Display properties but I've been playing around with those settings for ages and can't find a setting which is suitable for both regular windows use and for gaming

So I found a work around for this problem. Basically what I've done is create two different colour profiles in the Nvidia advanced settings in the Display Properties screen (See attachment). So now all I do is switch to the games settings I created before playing a game. When I'm finished I switch it back to Windows use :D

My suggestion is to download PowerStrip. This program will let you adjust the in game gamma and brightness on the fly using hotkeys. I've used it so many times back when I played Counter Strike.

you can also search the 9300/xps gen 2 forum on notebookforum, people post discussions about color profiles to be use with nvidia driver, given that you know which lcd you have.

Adjust the gamma in your game setting to make the screen brighter
