Hey everyone this is my first post.

I had a question about the fan of my insprion 9300. my fan has been going nuts lately and it sounds like airplane engine. i ran speedswitchxp and detected my cpu speed at it read 743mhz but i have a 1.6ghz processor and i believe this is why i am having problems with my fan. any thought on this problem? thanks

Download fanGUI. It will tell you all about the temperatures in your system. The fan is supposed to be controlled by the temperature of the CPU. The fan on my 9300 goes full speed at about 50-52 degrees Celcius. Your processor is running at 743Mhz because of Speedstep. It is supposed to do that to conserve power. But if your processor is running at reduced clock and is heating up enough to cause the fan to run at high speed then there is something wrong with the processor or the heat sink is not secure on the processor.

Thanks a lot. I'm using fangui and my process is a steady 36C so I set the fan speed on slow. But when it does get to the 50's I guess ill kick the fan into high.

Make sure you have the most current version of I9kfangui...when I first got it, it had my fans reversed...CPU fan was reading GPU temp.
