Hey im a noob with a dell 9300 and a geforce 6800 go. I was reading all the posts and what not about overclocking and drivers, but i've been confused. Can some one clarify these things for me.

Which drivers should i use? laptopvideo2go? if so which version?

Also Does the driver include a utility to overclock or do i need to download something else? any info would be appreciated.

I read that some people got 3dmark scores of 4000 around. I was only able to get 2929 on 3dmark2005 with everything being default.

Im trying to reach higher than that with or without overclocking...
preferably without, but i would like to know how, just so i can smoke my friends new desktop score. [ :D]

i'm using the latest drivers from laptopvideo2go.com

you need to download both the drivers and the modded inf file. put the modded file into the install directory and you'll be able to install it.

Once you've done that, you can go into the nview panel through:
control panel > display > settings > advanced

and if you see the left side panel, there is a link called 'clock frequency settings'.

You can either do 'auto overclocking' or 'manual overclocking'. I use manual. all you need to do is press 'detect optimal frequencies'.

When you've done that you should be getting 3dmark05 scores of near 4000. I have my clock speeds at 340/703 and I get a score of around 3900.

You may have to go through several sets of drivers before finding the one that works best for you (someone claims to have cracked 5000 with the 76.50's and a pin-modded CPU), in which case you should install Driver Cleaner to completely wipe the old driver. Also do a search for 3d Mark performance tweaks--there are several that may increase your score (having a certain amount RAM installed, killng all unnecessary processes, disabling Smart Shader, etc). I'm not an OCer, so maybe someone more knowledgable could give some specifics...

I did some research on my own

    unfortunately...
    stock 3dmark 2005 = 2927
    7.65 drivers 3dmark 2005 = 3257
    overclock with 7.65 drivers = 4167

n00b researching with my new laptop ...

i changed from the zv6000, although i paid about 500$ more.... im muched more satisfied...especially with the 17" screen...its much nicer than the HP laptop piece of crap..

Also i smoked my friends new desktop with the athlon 64 in terms of 3dmark...so im very happy

    were the drivers you used:

    http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=7069

I've been trying to get the best drivers and the same system. I'm using the dhzerpoint.net drivers right now, I haven't played with the overclocking, but they seem to be working great so far. Any opinions on these drivers?

If I overclock my Go 6800 in my Inspiron 9300, will it void Dell's warranties for the GPU/entire system?

Yeah I would be careful when overclocking the gpu. If you want to find out where a good point is to overclock what I would do is overclock 10-20 mhz at a time at first. But after a few times of these increases lower it to around 5. I use this program called ati tool for my pc and it has this cube with high texture and you will see white specs in the box if it is "artifacting" or overheating.

What I would do is take it down a bit from there. 10-20mhz down would be good, just because I would play it safe. If you think about it 10mhz doesn't even make much of difference in FPS so your best option is to play it safe, and not see how many marks you can get. I think the manual overclock would probably be a safe estimate if you go that route.

I downloaded dell's newest driver and i'm still only getting around 3100 3dmark05 and BF2 is still not loading past the logo screen for me. Which laptopvideo2go driver is getting the highest score from everyone?
