    Does anyone have any idea about how upgradeable the 9200 is? I would like to be able to upgrade the processor later on to extend the life of the laptop. Can the hard drive be swapped out? What about the vid card?

    Thanks!

    These are all possible, except possibly the video card. The video card depends on whether or not Dell decides to make a faster GPU for the model.

    * Inspiron 8600c * 1.8ghz Pentium M * 128 MB Radeon 9600 Pro Turbo * 2x512 MB DDR2700 SDRAM * 60GB 7200RPM HDD *

    i agree with what andrew said, but if you want an upgradable video card go for sager or falcon-nw or alienware they have Geforce Go6800's that you can upgrade yourself.

    Well currently the 6800 go's aren't upgradeable (at least the sager ones) - Its a pity that it can't simply be swapped out (comon - give us a decent modular design someone) but even though you should be able to find a compatible card it might be alot of work to install it.

    As for the hard drive/processor/ram I would say that doing the processor would require you to pretty much take your laptop to pieces (and while I'm happy doing this to a desktop I would be a little cautious about a lappy) most Dells have 2 easily accessible So-Dimm slots and hard drives.

    Have
    Dell Inspiron 2500, 800 Mhz P3, 312 MB Ram, 6.5 MB Onboard Graphics

    Want
    Dell 9200, 2.0 GHz, 1024 MB Ram, 128 MB Ati Mobility Radeon 9700 Graphics

    well, the other 6800's like alienware's can be changed, and the whole thing is cheaper than a ixps, with 2 optical drives and 2 harddrives, a camera, 17 inch screen, n a lot of stuff
