I'm only writing this to say I'm extremely happy thusfar with my 9200 (2 days ownership). Seeing others have problems with WUXGA resolution and having gone to view the two res. options in my local retail electronics store. I did not see (pun intended) a need to go for WUXGA.

What's 1900*1200 for? The 1400*900 is just super. The machine came set at 1400*900 and honestly, I wouldn't set the res. any smaller/finer. I can't view anything that small and be comfortable. Gaming is just fine (Call of Duty and Empire Earth so far). Got to get Half Life 2 to try it...

As for Dell service, I got the 9200 on Christmas Eve and discovered a problem. I phoned Dell customer service and got a person in about 5 minutes waiting. The guy said he was in Phillipines (Christmas Day for them). He walked me through re-seating the DVD burner. I had diagnosed the problem but did not know the exact cause. Everything's fine so far.

Go Dell 9200 if you want an inexpensive yet performance packed laptop or, should I say, multimedia entertainment center. And save yourself a few bucks with the lower res screen.

My Christmas gift (review) to those on the margin.

Good point, who would need a higher-resolution than that! Is beyond me, I mean come on 1900 x 1200 pixels is just obsered! The small size is probably why people are complaining abou the WUXGA screen.

I'll tell you what it's good for, first you must think outside of the gaming box. It's all about workspace, in Dreamweaver and photoshop I really enjoy having the extra space. Saying it is absurd(obsered) just because you don't use it, or can't see it dosen't make it pointless, that's like saying people who use dual monitors is pointless. And I, personally, have had no problems with WUXGA.

P.S. I ran HL2 at 1920x1200 and it was actually very playable.

Im still wondering about which resolution to get. If I bought the 1900x1200 then I guess I should be able to turn it down to 950x600 (effectively WVGA). I guess that mean there shouldbe no pixel interpolation as 4 pixels make up one image pixel.

So If I bought the highest res, would i be able to turn it down to 950 x 600 to play games that the Mob 9700 might not be able to run so well in the future?

If I bought the lowest resolution i guess im pretty much stuch with what i have

Thats a tough one. I play most my games at 1280x800 (Interpolation is not too bad, very tolerable) and do my work in 1920x1200. I think the 1400x900 is a great resolution also, I just personally like more space as mine is not just a gaming rig.

I think if you play just games on it, and went with the 1400x900 and got the 9800 w/256 you would be a happy camper. If you do any graphic artvideomultitrack music editing but would like to play games also, then the 1920x1200 with with either vidcard should satisfy you.

Hi, thanks for your response. I do soem graphic work so a high res screen is perfect for me. The internet and Office would run at normal res. Games I play at 1024x786 (on my current system).

Ideally, if the interpolation wasnt too bad, Id go for the high res monitor and just set the resolution down to whatever suited me. Im concerned about the image quality at low res so that means if I went for an ultra high res id have the option of running games (for example) and either very high res (which the card probably cant handle very well especially a few years down the line) or very low res when the native res is halved in all dimensions.

At the moment Im looking at WXGA as its just 1024x768 but wider (poss wxga+@1400x900 if thats the next best match) as its a nice resolution to play games, Office, the internet. The only problem I'd have is graphics work. I think I could live with that since I play games more on the machine (and watch TV/DVDs) than the odd bit of graphics work I do.

Im concerned about ghosting, contrast, clarity and response time as well. Ive never had a TFT monitor (for games/multimedia) so Im not sure how bad these effects might be.

Ideally I'd be able to get a high res display equivalent to X-Brite where some of the interpolation and other TFT problems might be reduced or elimated all together.

The WUXGA TFT problems Im hearing have put me off buying a machine just yet. I think I'll wait a couple of weeks to see if Dell can deal with the issue otherwise Im heading for the 1400x900 screen.

Well, for one, I'm on a 9100 and not a 9200. I'm not sure if these problems with the wuxga are specific to the 9200 but once again, I have not had any problems with it. Af far as contrast, it's quite bright, I can use it in a sunlit room. Ghosting in games has not been a problem, and the image quality is rather nice. Colors are never as vibrant on a laptop display compared to a CRT, but alas, that is a sacrifice to make for mobility.

I have an FTP site up, if you like I can snap some desktop shotsgame shots tonight and post em for you to view. They will be rather large im sure as I will keep the compression to a minimum. Respond if interested.

P.S. HL2 is the smoothest running engine yet. Not quite the texture resolution of D3 or EQ2, but it's still gorgeous and extremely well built.
