Well it came in yesterday runs like a top, the powerful pentium 4 prescott 2.8ghz managed to do super pi 2m in 1min 52s much faster then my acer celeron m which does it in 2min 22s plus the 9700 owns the GMA 900 in games and the sound is much better and louder then the acer. I just bought a couple of memory sims soon it will be to 2 gigs of ram and I plan to put in a northwood pentium 4 for less heat. all in all for 350 bucks how can you go wrong.

Just out of curiosity, how much will you have invested in that system after your upgrades?
-
I bought the ram for 60 bucks shipped 2gigs on ebay and a good northwood should only be around 100 bucks plus I will get money back from selling the prescott, the only thing that kills the deal is buying a radeon 9800 for. so basically I don't want to go over 600 bucks including the price of the system which sounds fair.

$600 is getting awfully close to a new core duo or core 2 duo system with at least an x1400. In my opinion thats a bum deal, $350 for the system and $60 for the ram I could feel good about, the other upgrades really wouldnt add all that much compared to the cost, for just a little more you could have a modern system with a full warranty.
By the same token, if gaming are what your after, $600 could go a long ways in a high performance desktop gaming rig with lots of room to grow. -
Yeah I sold my desktop to buy this lol! I know it is cheaper to buy new but I can't afford it all at once and being young they want to charge me 22% interest to buy a new dell, I figuered with the 9100 I can slowly upgrade as paycheck allows and then that way I pay no interest, I did own a 9400 bought used at the dell outlet but it had crap stuck behind the screen and the battery was worn out and multiple trys dell kept screwing up so I returned it and with the money I got back plus some cash I bought me a 1993 Lincoln mark 8 much better then the dell and it hasn't given me any problems

Saving up for something is a lesson well worth learning. Cheaper to buy new is only a small part of it, your paying a high price for very dated technology, I'll be the first to admit that building a Frankenmachine is lots of fun, though if I had to choose between the two, I'd take a new modern machine any day of the week.

yeah to be honest I know I don't need a 9400 but a nice 9300 with a 6800 would fit the bill perfect, oh well, some day eh?
9100 kicks butt
