Hi,
I ordered 9100 with 256MB memory. Can anyone offer some good site that can offer good deal of the memory upgrade?
Thanks!
P.S.
I checked crucial.com and their prices are high.
1GB CT363126 DDR PC3200 CL=3 NON-ECC US $499.99 (each)
512MB CT363127 DDR PC3200 CL=3 NON-ECC US $139.99 (each)
256MB CT363125 DDR PC3200 CL=3 NON-ECC US $69.99 (each)

I recommend Crucial. I actually don't think their prices are high, given their quality and support.

What about Kingston. I had good experience with Kingston. They have life time warrenty. Their 512MB PC3200 DDR400 memory is only around $98. It's not a "Few" bucks difference compare with $139.99 of Crucial.
Gigabyte, are you happy with the KingMax chips? -
Kingston is pretty solid in most cases. I've used them in desktops without issue.

smallapple,
Kingston is solid.
I've also used Kingmax in my Inspiron 5150, and it worked great. Kingmax is a fast growing memory company and is fairly good quality.
Newegg.com often has good prices on Notebook memory as well. -
Does Kingmax provide life time warranty?
I am not familiar with spec of memory. Can anyone tell me what kind of memory I should should for 9100? -
Yes, Kingmax offers lifetime warranty.
You are going to want 400MHz DDR Dual Channel memory. -
On Kingston web site, if I search for memory based on laptop's brand and model, the site will give KTD-INSP9100/512, which is $193 per piece.
On their promotion area, I see another model
KVR400/512R (Specs)
512MB 400MHz DDR (PC3200) DIMM CL3 $79.99 after $15 rebate.
I am confuse here. Do I have to use KTD-INSP9100/512? Can I use the cheap one? Can anyone advise?

Two Questions.
How many memory slots does the 9100 have?
I purchased the 512MB model.
Is that 1 512 MB or 2 256 MB installed?
To up grade to 1 GB, would I have to buy a 1 GB or another 512 MB
Still waiting for arrival,

Yes, unless you paid extra to get one DIMM, you received two.

Smallapple, I apologize but I'm not sure if that cheaper one would work, the stats you give appears to be compatible but I do not want to give you the wrong information. Is there anyway you could contact the memory company to find out for sure?
Fio,
As for your questions, I believe the 9100 has 2 slots. Hard to say if you ordered 1 512 MB chip or 2 256 MB chips. I would say that if you spent a lot of money on the memory it probably is 1 chip, but again I can't tell unless I saw your order form. Usually Dell lists 1 DIMM or 2 DIMM in parantheses to let you know what you are ordering. -
nesbo, I did more research. The cheap one on Kingston site is 184 pin. The expensive one is 200 pin. So I guess I cannot use the cheap one.
-
I checked, it's coming with 2 DIMMs.
Fionan.
BTW. Just got off the phone with Dell and my ship is 22 April, the Customer rep said the P4 chips are out of stock.
