Hello,
I'm seriously thinking of replacing my Go 7900 GS GPU with a Go 7900 GTX. (within some time because I don't have enough money right now (I'm only 14)) .Now is my question, is my adapter going to be strong enough for the Go 7900 GTX? From other hardware, I have a T7400 (2,16 Ghz Core 2 duo) a seagate 7200.3 (Seagate says: "The Seagate® Momentus® 7200.3 laptop hard drive delivers industry-leading 7200-RPM performance while offering the industry’s lowest power consumption levels.") I have 4 GIG hyperx RAM.
And another question: where can I buy a Go 7900 GTX, I found some on EBay, but I don't like that way of buying things. Is there a direct way to buy one from Dell? I searched on their sitre but didn't find any link for spare part GPU's.

My Inspiron 6000 with a Pentium M and a GMA 900 runs on a 90W adapter. You will definitely need a larger power adapter than that. Are you sure that your laptop came with a 90W adapter? My friend's XPS with a 7900GS came with like a 150W adapter.

At the back of the adapter stays "90W-AC adapter". So I'm quite sure it's 90 W .
But is there a way to know how much W my system is using at the moment? Some kind of program perhaps. -
IMO, 90 W is more than enough. When I have a Dell Inspiron 1420 working at full speed, I still can charge my battery on a 65W adapter on the road. Just food for thought.
-
And if it would be insufficiant, will it harm my system then or will it just work on my adapter and battery together?
-
when i plugged a 65 into my 1520 it said insufficiant charge and said it would charge real slow and hinder performance.

Do you mean the laptop in your signature? It has a 2,6 Ghz CPU which uses alot more power then my 2,16...
Is it possible with my 90 W adapter to replace my GPU with a go 7950 gtx too?
And does anybody know where to buy (not from ebay!) -
-
My 1520 with the 8600GT and 2.0 core 2 has a 90w adapter and that's enough for it.
-
Thanks for the answers, but I can't find the go 7900 gtx nor the go 7950 gtx on the Dell website... Does anyone know where to get it?
-
You can try eBay, but my i1520 had a 90W (2Ghz) and my newer i1535 also has a 90W (2.5Ghz), but it depends on the increased draw of the GPU you're adding more so than the CPU.
If the adaptor doesn't give enough power or the board can't provide enough power (when given) the graphics card will clock down and be slower. That might squander any gains you hope the obtain with the upgrade.
90 Wat adapter strong enough?
