1330 sitting on top of a 1420:
At least from the front it's not so bad. I would definitely recommend two 6-cell batteries with this laptop if you want the extended battery life. The battery sticking out just makes it awkward.

I think hideous is a bit extreme. I use erasers to prop up the back of my laptop to keep it from getting hot, now that is hideous. also, those pics make the 1420 look like a brick when compared to the m1330 IMO. Awkward may describe the looks, but it comes in handy for making typing comfortable imo aswell.

Definitely not as elegant as Thinkpad's solution.

Ok, maybe hideous is an overstatement. But the 1420 actually does a great job of dissipating heat so that the bottom does not get hot. It vents hot air on the left-side so it really doesn't need to be elevated. Unfortunately, you are right, it is a brick. But the XPS isn't that much smaller. You would think with the drastic price difference, they could've made it A LOT smaller. Seriously, I dont know how they're saying this PC (XPS m1330) is thinner than a MacBook.

It's a matter of perspective. I find 1330 with 9-cell aesthetically pleasing. Say whatever u want, for each one of u hating 9-cell on 1330, there's another one who likes it

The extended life battery is actually a great way to prevent the bottom of your laptop from getting too hot. Less heat for electronics means longer lasting lifetime.

I must say that it does look quite hideous. If it only stuck out of the back, it'd be fine, but it elevating the laptop is horrendous, though it is somewhat of a plus that it allows air to ventilate.
9-cell on XPS m1330 looks hideous! Pics included.
