Does the XPS M1210's optional 9-cell battery stick out beyond the computer itself, or is it the same form factor as the standard 6-cell battery? I've just about settled on this model for my first laptop, but the idea of buying an ultra-portable only to have the battery bulge out the side just bothers me to no end.

    Thanks!

I can get almost 4 hours on the 6-cell battery (with dedicated graphics and using wifi). I bought both, but I really hate how the 9 cell looks and I plan to use it only when I must have a backup battery, like plane rides or something.

The 9 cell is useful, but looks ugly. I find the 6 cell completely sufficient.

From experence with the extended 9-cell, I actually like that it sticks out. I mean you dont see it when the screen is up, and its not like its annoying at all. Its actually usefull to have it. I find it to be a good place to get a firm grip on the system, almost like a handle when carrying it under my arm. For me its a good thing that it sticks out. And its not like its a problem in my bag, its ment for a 15". I just turn my 1210 sideways and it fits perfectly.

ewwww.. that sucker would snap off in a case. Thats a horrible design flaw. Id much rather get 2 6-cell batteries.

I've had my M140 for a while with the extended battery; it sure has taken a beating in my carry bag. But I've NEVER had a problem with the battery sticking out.

Just think, it is attached to the system the same exact way the 6 cell is...I don't think Dell would make that shoddy of a design that the battery could just "snap off"

I dont know why you people hate having a 1 inch extension out of your notebook. The thing is already small, its not going to snap off, it gives great battery life, and its a good "handle" to get a grip on. I think its a good thing that it sticks out 1 inch.
