The GDDR3 OC'ed is pretty close to the 8700GT at stock, so I wouldn't say its false, in terms of the 8600GT GDDR3.

It is true, but only if you use GDDR3 memory capable of being OC'd that much. Also important to note is that there may be temperature or voltage limitations to the amount of OC'ing.

Well, its like saying an oc'd 2.4ghz c2d is the same as a 3.0ghz c2d...while it may hit the same speeds it will run hotter, draw more power, and obviously you could oc a 3.0ghz processor to go higher. Basically the 8700 will be more optimized to reach those speeds safely and have the ability to be overclocked more itself.

is it also true that the 8700M GT is actually just a higher clocked ver of 8600GT
    researching...

yes but its not exactly like that. like my example saying intel doesnt take a 2.4 ghz processor and oc it to 3.0 and sell it like that. the architecture in the 8700 is made to withstand those speeds where as the 8600gt isnt made to do that.

i just finished my research at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GeForce_8#GeForce_8M_mobile_GPUs
    and several other websites

to me, (8700M GT) and (8600M GT GDDR3) are the same thing even without being overclocked.

but when the 8600M GT GDDR3 is oc'ed then it totally becomes one and =equal= to the 8700M GT

i wonder why the 8700M GT is classified as enthusiast and 8600M GT performancemultimedia

to me getting the 8600M GT DDR3 on DELL XPS 1530 especially when dell has also promised it will be clocked higher than inspiron 1520, is a STEAL

all i have to do is get me a laptop cooler and OC the bastard for some crazy gaming

i also wonder why 8600M GT stock clocks are lower than its inferior sister, 8600M GS at nvidia site http://www.nvidia.com/object/geforce_8600M.html

is it because it will be having heat issues if clocked >= than its inferior sister 8600M GS ; or nvidia is trying to fool us into paying more for 8700M GT when they know we can get the same power with 8600M GT

which again is why i would be considering a laptop cooler for some crazy gaming

The GS is clocked higher to make up for it having half the stream processors and texture units. It can be clocked that high easier because it doesn't get as hot (having less processors on the die).

The 8700M-GT is simply a G84M core that tested stably at certain high clock speeds, with GDDR3 memory. A 8600M-GT GDDR3 is exactly the same thing, except it didn't test stably to as high of clock speeds. That's the only difference.

To be honest, both GPU's are identical, just different clock speeds and memory types.

That is where people get the "It's just a overclocked 8600GT" from. Because in all honesty is it, but it has special thermal changes done to the heat sinks to handle the high clock speeds.

There's no official confirmation that the XPS1530 will have GDDR3 video memory (or I could be out of the loop) so don't get your hopes up.

Your research could have included the Gaming forum sticky as it explains why the GS is clocked higher than the GT. Basically having double the shaders compared to the GS is superior to having higher base clocks.

Read this link. Then read this link for the difference in having more shaders when RAM speeds are completely equal.

If you read my previous post, you'll see I explained why the GS is clocked higher than the GT.
