    Greetings All,

First time in this forum, found out it is very informative :)

I am in the mist of getting my first laptop, just a quick question, can either the XPS1530 or Vostro1500 be fitted with a 8700GT?

By default config, I can only see 8600GT.

    Thanks in advance.

    Welcome

Sorry but It wont work seeing as Video cards are soldered to the motherboard. What they offer is what they offer. If you want the 8700 GT check out Sager at xoticpc.com

    cheers

Since Dell uses their own design, you can only get what they offer. So no 8700GT...sorry.

Actually X2P, Dell notebooks use modular graphics cards...but its a Dell module made by them for them.

I don't think the XPS M1530 could even cool an 8700m GT, but if you don't need a laptop immediately, you could wait for the 9600m which should be about the same specs as the 8700m or a little bit higher and fit into 15" laptops.

The XPS m1330 and m1530 do used soldered GPUs in order to save space. The Inspirons and Vostros use a proprietary connection. So everyone's right.

Thanks A Lot guys, very prompt n concise reply!!

Gald I found and joined this forum :)

Hmm...ok..will see if I can wait till June/July then for the 9600M, assuming there is no delay.

Anyway, I being in Singapore, cfm slower then you guys in the states. And over here, the Dell just aint that great, example our desktop XPS only goes up to 420......way lower then wat you guys have :(

This is correct. I've had my M1530 apart and there is no module, the chip is soldered right onto the board.

I was under the impression vostro line was also soldered from many posts... does that mean I could get a 8800 in there with some modding....

No. Proprietary connection means Dell has to make one for it, which they obviously don't.

Even though the part is replaceable, you should still treat it as non-upgradeable. "The GPU is not upgradeable" is a good stance to take for any notebook.
