I hope so, a 256MB 8600M GT just doesnt do it for me.
    Let's wait and hope it'll feature a 512MB 8700M.

Not yet, but it would not suprise me when it does come out. Nvidia is leaving the 8700M as the top now, but at least the 8800M is in the works.

I doubt it. They will probably keep the same options as there are now, and then add a model from the 8800M line.

It seems like the obvious step forward to put the 8700M in, since it's supposed to be the successor to the 7900GS.

You are right, but remember that the 8700M GT is as good as the 7950GTX

I wouldn't be surprised if they save it for the XPS 17" SR refresh instead. I hope not, but it wouldn't surprise me at all.

That's weird. Now you got me worried.

All the stuff I have read says that the 8700M GT is basically an overclocked 7950 GTX.

lol why don't you guys post what you read so we can see for sure, I don't know but I'd be very happy if it turned out that the 8700 is going to be as good as the 7950, but I kinda doubt it.

    Here
They are talking about the desktop versions, but i am pretty sure it still applies.

Course with driver updates, i'm sure they'll be able to squeak out a bit more power... i dont think it'll be anywhere near a 7950gtx though.

Are there any benchmark links you have comparing the 7950gtx and 8700m?

the 8600GT is the equivalent to the 7900, The 8700GT has the exact same hardware just at a higher clock and it draws more power. So people are saying 7950. The 8700 hasnt been released yet, even in pre release models so no one really knows how it will actually perform but if I had to guess I would say Hot, And a battery drainer.
