    Hi Friends,
I had a thread about my 8600m gt in my Inspiron 1720 going bad. I decided to buy a replacement on ebay. I got a UW390 (listed as compatible with the 1720)
but when attempting to install it I was unpleasantly surprised to learn that the heatsink was the wrong size, made for a 15 inch machine. Can I put my existing 17 inch heatsink on to this card?
    Thanks

Yes, I took the heatsink off my current card to bake it in the oven, then put it back on with new paste.

Just use a torx bit to remove the heat sink from the bad card and place it on the good card.

Make sure to use a good thermal compound like AS5 between the GPU and memory (can't remember if Dell used a heat pad on them too) and heat sink before reassembling.
