Any particular reason you wouldn't be interested in overclocking your 8600?? I just overclocked mine and it was very simple, I then ran 3DMark06 and benched it and got really nice results.

Is there some kind of official overclocking thread or something? It sounds appealing to me but I want to know the pros and cons of doing it before I take action (does it decrease life span of laptop, affect any other programs? etc...)

Is installing the latest drivers the same thing as overclocking or is there more to it?

There is NUMEROUS threads on overclocking. If you have a 8600GT video card then your options are limitless. Basically the steps are download and install drivers that are overclockable (i'm using 169.01). Then download RivaTuner and 3Dmark06. Run a benchmark test on your stock video card then you can overclock in increments of 10. The biggest thing your looking for is your temperature. Since we are using laptops, heat is the biggest thing. DO NOT let your video card go over 80 degrees C. Thats the basics. To overclock right it should take a couple hours. Look on the forum and you'll find a lot of really good info. This is a very good forum for what your looking to do.

If you want, download the driver for the i1520. It is v.174.31. It should install without modification.
