Is it much of a big difference? I'm looking at the Asus G1S.
-
My understanding is that it makes a big difference, because the DDR2 memory is significantly slower than GDDR3 memory.
-
yes GDDR3 is much better but why is this in the dell section?
-
Because it relates to the Dell's 8600M GT with DDR2.
-
there is at least 30+ threads on this in the 'Graphics/Gaming' section.
-
Link plz.

Yes, the DDR3 has a significant difference, worth the money also
-
There's a freakin sale on the ASUS g1s at BB this week... if I had known I'd gotten that instead of this vostro... I mean it comes with freakin DDR3.
-
Exactly why I made this topic. But whatever.
-
Definitely get it... it makes a noticeable performance difference.
-
I really don't wanna go through the hassle of sending 2 laptops back (1 broken and 1 replacement).
-
I think it's simple, if you need the graphics performance then get it. I was actually turned off a bit by the system itself but almost went for it just for the dd3, in the end i'm much happier with the vostro it's an awesome machine.

Yeah, even though the ddr3 is an upgrade, the Asus has alot of drawbacks. The speakers aren't as good as the 1520, the built itself and looks aren't as nice as the 1520 (my opinion), the usb ports are too cluttered together, the screens also have light leakage, etc. I love everything about the dell...except for the graininess and headphone noise.
-
You could always over clock the GDDR2, which will help but I wouldn't push em as fast as the GDDR3 though. GDDR2 is default 400Mhz, GDDR3 is default 700Mhz

But note the 7950GTX does not future proof as it does not support DX10, which is already here in its infancy.
-
I don't know about you, but I wouldn't like to LOOK like a gamer. -
ive saw a lot of statistics showing ddr 3 does atleast a 10% improvement
8600M GT ddr2 vs 8600M GT ddr3 ?
