I was wondering if I could buy a SXGA screen off ebay and replace my current XGA with it? Obviously screen sizes are the same, but I dont know if it would be plug and play or not etc.. Also on a side note, since I have the 32MB video card, I was also thinking of upgrading to the 128 bit card, and was wondering if anyone has done it yet and how much it was to buy through dell etc..
    Thanks in advance,
    Scott

I have heard that the ATI 9600 128 MB card thru Dell spare parts is close to $200. They also have the GeForce 5650 128 MB for a little less, but I don't think that card is quite as good as the ATI one. I know people on Dell's community forums have upgraded without problems...but remember if anything goes wrong, you will get screwed on any warranty you have left.

Just to let you know, doing this upgade is not sanctioned by dell, but it does not void your warranty. You are simply responsible for any damage you cause while inside your notebook. If you are tinkering with the GPU and the hard drive breaks, they are still supposed to fix it.

Thanks guys! I read the article on swapping out the cards, very informative. Any answers on doing LCD screen swapping to better ones?
    Thanks

Just to clarify Andrew, I know people who have had their notebook returned by tech support and have refused to fix things if they see non sanctioned work has been done inside the computer, no matter what the repair was for.
