Help out a noob... How do you install the inf over the current one? What are the exact install procedures for new drivers? Laptopvideo2go is a little spartan when it comes to this.

Download and run the driver exe file to extract it on to the hard disk. Replace the original nv4_disp.inf file with the modified inf file, then run setup.exe

Actually, not. U can't use original nvidia drivers with laptopvideo2go infs. The latter are designed for int'l drivers while the former, if u r in the US/UK, will be english driver only, so when u try combining the two, it'll give u error during the installation. Just to be sure, d/l both the driver and the inf off the laptopvideo2go.

I am using 163.44 mod inf from laptopvideo2go on my Vostro 1400. I have no problem with it.

Update: There is some issue with waking up using 163.44. I found 165.01 to be fine and I am now testing 156.55 which was just released yesterday.

Indeed, that was my first thought. What is there to gain from changing from the default driver that came with the Vostro??

There is nothing wrong; they are also based on the nVidia Forceware driver. But DELL take away some features + they don’t update them as frequently as nVidia drivers, therefore latest nVidia drivers will be better and faster (more bug fixes).

For example current DELL driver is ver 101.43 while the nVidia’s latest is 163.44. Take a look at how a driver update can improve performance in certain games.

I tried the update driver button on the 8400 properties and it reports that it is up to date. So is it going to Nvidia or Dell to check for this?
Why do you have to go to a 3rd party site to get the 1623.44 driver and not directly from Nvidia?
Can someone post the link from Nvidia to driver 163.44

I am getting screen crapping out having strange greenish shade all over whn I try to play Starcraft.

Because for laptops, NVIDIA leaves it up to the OEM to decide which drivers they like and release them. The OEMs can sometimes lag behind NVIDIA by months, which prevents the end users from accessing better performing or less buggy drivers.

The 163.44 driver *is* the driver from Nvidia, it is just packaged differently and can be installed with the modified INF. You could go compare the extracted files if you want, its the same. By default, if you download the Nvidia install, it checks a list of cards (mostly desktop cards), fails to find one, then exits on a laptop. The modified INF file is basically just increasing the number of list items for supported cards, which then allows the driver to install.

download the correct driver (XP/VISTA/32/64/Whatever). On the page that offers the downloads you should download the installer AND the modified INF. Once downloaded, unpack the installer into a directory and put the modified INF file you just downloaded into that directory. You will be overwriting the original (unpacked) INF file and have to confirm the overwrite. Now open the directory and click on setup...

What is the current or most issue free driver for 8400GS?
I installed the 163.44 last week and I did not find any issue until today.
I tried to connect my Vostro 14000 to my LCD TV using the VGA out and it only outputs the picture in blacknwhite no color.

I used my other laptop (T40) and it shows in color as it supposed to be. I have connected the V1400 to LCD TV in the past before the video driver upgrade and it was showing it in color.
Is their a fix for it or I need to start looking for a new driver?

    But..really I don't want disable power mizer!
With powermizer my video card have tree steps of frequency core and memory:

When i'm going to change the energy saving(with the utility from dell that is DellQuickset) from max battery \ balanced \max power i wanna that the frequence of my video card changing.
Days ago (I don't know how) i'll do it.I installed(i think) a particular driver that i don't remember the name..
Now i've formatted the hd and this problem returned.
It's a problem because when i use aero and my frequence is the lowest i've a lot of problem from(5-6 sec) to move-scrol the window..
    Some one can hel me??
Know i've the 156.69(but i tried the newest driver either.
I know the tweek by register, but i want the possibility of change whitout reboot the system..
thanks a lot and(sorry for my english :D)

Can you tell me(witch one has my same laptop)if have this problem or problem with the scroll of the windows(in vista and in xp)thanx!!

I didn't see anyone mentioned that the latest driver on support.dell.com doesn't support h.264 acceleration in hardware. For instance I will get white image while playing those blu-ray rips enabling HW support in PowerDVD. Though it does support VC-1 decoding in HW. Perhaps it's a problem with
