the e1505 weighs roughly around 7lb
for those who carry a 6lb+, is it manageable?

7lbs is not heavy at all. i have a 8lb E1705 and even that is not too heavy too carrry around.

its all relative...if you are an olympian weightlifter....a 100lbs notebook would be an "ultraportable" for them
if you are a scrawny 100lbs kid....then 6lbs is pushing it...
btw, the e1505/6400 is around 6-6.3lbs depending on the configuration...i carry a dv4030 around all the time and that is also around 6lbs...it won't be too different when i get my 6400. -
i think its nothing. i mean, i just came out of high school, and had to carry most of my books at one time. so a bookbag with a laptop inside, feels like nothing to me

I dont think its the weight thats the problem. I mean seriously if someone would have a hard time carrying 7 pounds, what are they doing walking? I think its the awkwardness of carrying a 7 pound, very thin, but wide, expensive, and fragile piece of hardware that makes it a hassle to carry it. My friend has an E1505, and I wouldnt want to carry it around, its not the weight, im just afraid ill drop it. Now a notebook like the M1210 thats that small, and weights around 4-5 pounds, that wouldnt be a problem.

I prefer a laptop be 5 lbs or less to carry around for extended periods. More than that, and your shoulder will get sore but you will not fall over because it's too heavy. If you've carried a lighter laptop around you won't go back to a heavier one, if you've never had a notebook then ignorance is bliss and 7lbs won't feel all that bad.

On the postal scale my E1505 weighs in at 7.25 lbs w/9cell batt, 100GB HD, CD/DVDRW, 256MB vid, WiFi, bluetooth, bit heavy but the E1505 is the best preformance for the money in dell's lineup.

7lb is fine, if it is the only thing you'll be carrying around. If you are in school/college or have to carry anything else other than just the laptop, then the weight can build up pretty quickly. It also depends on how long/often you will have to carry the laptop. If it is too frequent then a 7lb laptop might not be the best fit. if it just taking it to work in the morning and nringing it back home in the evening then it might be worth carrying the extra weight.

Iceman0124 More news from nowhere
7 pounds is nothing, I walk about 7 miles a day, and have done so with my 1505 ever since I got it, and it hasnt slowed me down 1 bit

according to me its too much. I used to have Sony Vaio 15.4" 6.5lb which was very tiny but weights as hell in the backpack with the charger when carrying it for more than a hour.
now im looking for e1405 which is less heavy , 5.5lb. -
It is very light 7lb is not much. I have a xps that is 12 lb and that thing stays in the house to heavy and big -
I wouldn't want to do it. My D620 is approaching the upper limit of what I'm willing to carry, especially if I'm carrying around the power brick. If the D420 was available when I placed my order, I would have purchased that.
Another thing to consider is where you're going to be using it. You may want something smaller and more discreet to use, in which case a 12" or 14.1" screen might be a better choice. -
i will be taking it to school 2-3 times a week
and my school is a small private school, so it takes seconds getting from class to class -

I don't get it, even 10 pounds is nothing in a pack. I use a Targus Miami Messenger and it totally loaded is 15 max. Unless you're in sad shape, anyone should be able to lug it around.

7 lbs is but mere feathers for a country strong boy like me.

I've seen 7th graders (13 years old) carry around 20 pound messenger bags all day.. surely you can carry around 7 pounds.

....everyday.
