i have a dell inspiron 9300 with a go 6800. i was going to upgrade to the 7800 gtx by upgrading the battery and replacing the video card..but with the new 512meg cards out, has anyone tried using one of them in the inspiron9300? can we replace it just as we did the 7800gtx?

More than likely not. My best guess would be you would need a 9400 / E1705 but I could be wrong
-
i doubt this because try to follow this
in order to use the 7800 gtx you have to use a m170s bios in a 9300
the m170 is discontinued they never sold it with a 7900 gtx
you dont have a bios to recognize the 79000 gtx in your 9300 even though it will fit
seeing as this is about the most common laptop on earth you have a chance that some computer geek somewhere is writing a bios for this. but wait until after you see it to buy one at least lol. -
Ok, the answer is more likely no like the other people had said. The only reason the 7800gtx worked with the i9300 was that the XPSGen2/m170 used the same motherboard as the i9300. So all you had to do was to flash and change the bios over. Now the core duo notebooks have a new motherboard meaning no 7900gtx. Now if you had a e1705, there will probably be a bios work around for it sometime that would let you put the 7900gtx in it because the motherboard is the same in the e1705 and xps m1710. Does that clear things up?

ok...so basically i have to wait it out.. the 6800 has been fine with all the new games out right now anyway..

I would wait. There will be a strong chance it will fit, but then we just need to work out the BIOS
Im pretty positive it would fit, and have no heating problems, since the 7900GTX does run cooler than the 7800GTX
7900gtx
