Ok, I finally got all the drivers and stuff installed on the new E1705 with the 7900 GS. I went with the latest drivers from TweaksRus, the 84.56 v. 2.40. Temperature wise, on stock settings of 375 MHz 507 MHz, the temperature was around 70C... after the overclocking to 430 and 581, the temps only rose slightly to 74C.

I just ran 3DMark 05... the temperature after the test was 58C! And my score on the first tun was: 6380. Is that good?

    Thats about right on target.

My M170 with a 7800GTX got 6500. And the 7800GTX is slightly better

with that said, your score is right on par

Very well :) Is there anyway to improve the score?

BTW, the 3DMark program is cool as ****!

You can always overclock it, but i wouldnt push the card as it is. Thats a nice score.

    I would also run 3dMark06, and PCmark05

So the 70C and 74C are when the card is not running any heavy apps? But when you run 3dmark05 it was only 58C?! That sounds very strange for the temp to drop when you are running 3dmark05. Is the 6380 when overclocked or stock?

That's an excellent score; the Go7900GS is an incredible card not only for its 3D performance, but also because it has such a low (20W) power consumption. For comparison, the Go7800GTX uses 40W; it manages about 6600-6800 in a Dell XPS M170. You are very close to that with a much more efficent card.

I wouldn't overclock that card; it is plenty fast on stock.

    Temperatures look normal.

That score IS overclocked score :) I didn't get a chance to do stock scores because I was too impatient when installing the new stuff!!!

I caught that on your first post.

I was hoping someone could post all stock scores for baseline but understand the urge to see what she can do :D

Nice scores, but it's weird that your temp dropped while running 3D Mark. That can't be right.

    Congrats on the purchase!! :)

Sigh.. makes me jealous.. think the ATI X1400 can do what maybe 1800 on avg.. and your getting 6000 sigh...

Think this could be the only thing I would envy from a E1705.. however my E1505 I am quite happy with. =)

Being happy with what you have is what its all about! I am happy I went with this computer, and probably will be happy with it for a long time to come (sans some inherant default I don't know about)

Well, computers and cars are probably the two things that people get dissatisfied the most about over time. But for the most part, if it does the job you should be happy...but that is not always the case. :p

    A little off-topic, but hey! :D

Yeah, the fan kicked in, and that temp was after the program ran. Right now I am seeing temps in the mid to high 70C area, and honestly, it feels just like the 7800Go :(, andI am not doing anything that taxing... like web browsing.

Wow, those are some pretty stunning scores! When I have my 7800Go in my E1705 OCed, the max. score I got (from 3DMark05) was 6012.

Scored 6335 on 3DMark05 with an overclock of 420 and 550. Sorry don't have temps.
What are people using for monitoring the temps???

I just figured out from reading some threads that to actually keep the overclock settings, I need to flash the bios with them! Otherwise, I set the new settings, hit ok, and if I go back into the Nvidia control panel, the stock settings are back.

How the hell do you flash the new settings into the GPU bios?

Before my 1705 was murdered I noticed that the 7900GS as warm, by touch, as the 7800 I'm using now. When I get laptop repaired I'll re-check temps.

My question is how hot does the bios let the GPU get? If say the setpoint is 80C, ANY GPU is going to feel warm, but the heat will be shed faster as not as many sticks in the fire ;)

I like what some people are doing by keeping the fans running low but not sure if BIOS will override the low setting to high if needed?

If you aren't flashing your bios, you are not overclocking your 7900 GS. The clock settings are locked so moving the frequency sliders around is doing nothing.

Good examples of the OC'ing capability found here. http://www.notebookforums.com/showthread.php?t=154646

This card has a TON of potential and runs super-cool.
