My friend has a 9300 with a 6800 go in it and he just installed a 7200 rpm drive, and when he plays BF2, he will start get black 'artifacts' travelling all over the screen, if he lifts up the top right corner of the lappy (where the gpu and the HD are) in about 3 mins he's good to go for a while. I was wondering if any of you out there have an e1705 with the nvidia 7900 and a 7200rpm drive, have you seen them cause eachother heating problems enough to cause problems in performance, im guessing that the the heat sink on the 7900 is a nice fancy copper one and the 6800 only has an aluminum, so that may be a factor also, but i would love to hear any first hand experience.

    Thanks

Hopefully ordering an E1705 on friday.

Copper will cool much better then a aluminum heatsink; thats a common fact. But the main reason your friends laptop is overheating could be a few things. The intake fan for his go 6800 could be clogged with dust or hair. The 6800 itself uses more power then the 7900 which means the 6800 will produce more heat. And from what l've read the newer 7200rpm drives don't create as much heat as some people say they do.
