So my friend just got a new e1705 with a duo 1.83, 1gb ram, 80gb hd, and the nvidia 7800 Go. He was having some trouble running the FEAR demo along the lines of lagging.

He asked me to help out with it (cleaning bloatware, optimizing start up, graphics settings, etc). We installed 3dMark05. First Test: 480. Had no idea what was up. So i uninstalled the dell drivers, ran driver cleaner then installed the Omegas. this was a bad idea, theyre a year old and we couldn't get widescreen resolutions. As a result, the screen was jacked and when we turned it up to 1600x1200 the screen went crazy along the lines of overclocking and miserable artifacting. I finally was able to restart in safe mode at the last working configuration (which was with no drivers) then installed the Dell drivers. After reboot, 3880 3dMarks...

So i have no idea what was up with it at first. My thought is that something was wrong with the factory dell driver installation that was causing the lag as well as the miserable integrated graphics-esqu score the first time. Is this possible? Anyone else have this problem?

Also, what 3rd party drivers do you guys use for the 7800?

I generally use Xtreme G drivers from tweaksrus.com

    They are reliable, and stable.

Follow to the LETTER, the guide for uninstalling and installing new drivers into your machine. It will do you justice.

As a rule, I dont push my 7800Go over 360 / 820 as it gives great performance, stability, and temps are reasonable.
