Hey guys. So after looking at a bunch of models and making up my mind I went with a Inspiron 7000 gaming (7567 ) with the 4k screen.
I know 4k is overkill but dell had it on sale and in my country it's the only IPS variant they sell (all 1080p models are TN) so I decided to go for it.
After a week of testing it I'm mostly happy with it. Build quality is pretty good, I love the keyboard, performance is great and the 4K screen looks pretty nice.
But I'm pretty worried about the battery life. Currently, with the energy optio set to "Dell" (which is supposed to be balanced) I'm getting around 4 and a half hours of battery life while browsing, using office and mabye downloading 2-3 things every now and then. With the scren at about 20% brightness
I have to say I'm pretty dissapointed with the battery performance. I knew that going for the 4k screen would lower the battey life by about 2 hours or so but when I keep reading reviews about how the 1080p version can handle like 9-10 hours of we browsing on a single charge I can't help but feel worried about the fact that mine doesn't even get to 5.
So, could there be anything in the settings that's wrong and making the system use more battery than normal?
Are there other 4K screen owners which could confirm how long thy can use their Notebooks before charging?
Should I contact Dell?
thx

Have you turned off the keyboard backlight? That drains quite a bit of power. Also make sure the use the Power Saver profile from Windows, not Dell.

Does chrome use a lot of battery? Went into the power options and it showed that Chrome used like 71% of the battery
Seems normal to me since most of what I did was browse using Chrome but I remember reading some people saying it uses a lot more battery than other browsers, though I'm not sure if it's true -

Currently, the most energy-efficient browser is MS Edge. After that Chrome and Safari IIRC. Though differences are very small. What exactly are you doing is important. If you are watching 4K video, that may affect it. It also depends on how much load there is on the system. Having a good 20 tabs constantly active does eat away system resources.

I agree DRFP, the keyboard on my 5000 is awesome too. I guess I like low travel keys. My MacBook keyboard is horrendous.

Yeah...I'm not a mechanical keyboard fan....the long travel clicking...meh...I left the 80s in the 80s!

Me two, I really dislike Mech keys. Just can't get used to them. Typing on a quiet membrane is my jam.

Have the same laptop with 4K screen. Configured to using battery saver mode it lists an estimated 7.5 hours with the backlight off and screen dimmed. Been using opera for the browser. Sat in my back yard chatting with slack and irc and battery usage didn't seem exorbitant.
