Does anyone have a clue when a 7200 rpm hdd will be available for ordering a 1720? I want to order my laptop soon but I'm not sure how long I have to wait....

i personally think that dell have been stupid in this sense of not offering a 7200rpm drive on the 1720 but offering it on the 1520, shame on dell!

I asked them and first they said that they would be available in 2 weeks and later somebody from Dell said that it wont be possible because that was chosen to be like that. But after I confronted him with the first remark I got they said. Well it might be possible but nothing was sure yet... So i ordered a 1720 with a 5400rpm disk and will see how I will experience it

I also contacted Dell on this issue and was told that there are no plans to offer a 7200 rpm drive in the 1720, but they couldn't explain why. I hesitate purchasing a 1720 with 5400 rpm drive but also hesitate to purchase the smaller 1520 because it does offer a 7200 rpm drive. I think this is a big blunder on Dell's part and hope if I wait a little while they may offer it ?

I imagine that they will offer it in the future. What you can do know is buy a decent 7200 rpm off of newegg or someplace and then switch out your 5400 rpm.

The spare hard disk can easily be put in an enclosure and become an external hard drive.
