I am a student in need of a notebook. I love the 700m for portability, but I was wondering if it could hold up to my use. I will need it for class and to work on school projects. I am not a gamer and only need basic functions (word processing, web, etc) I would get the larger battery and the only other complaints I've heard have been the small monitor and keyboard when using for a long time, but I have a full sized keyboard and lcd monitor for my previous desktop I can use with it when I am working at home.

My question really is if it can hold up to being used for hours at a time and being on a students budget, I need it to last me for a few years.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It's a perfect fit for what you want, portability with a small budget, that's exactly what I would recommend to you.

The 700m is small, but thick, so it is a very tough little guy. The keyboard is kind of small, but in term of quality, very good .

Yup, you are a perfect 700m candidate! I would recommend you get the Pentium M at 1.6 Ghz only, since you probably won't even notice the difference if you pay for the 2.0 Ghz upgrade. Get 512 MB ram from NewEgg, I hear it's cheaper.

I find the 700m very well build and solid, but it's not as rugged as a Thinkpad or a Fujitsu model.

It offers the best bang for the buck and the screen is great. Make sure you get an external keyboard and mouse if you plan on working on it for 4 hours or what not - it's not because the keyboard is uncomfortable - it's firm, solid, and a breeze to type on, but I wouldn't want to write a novel on it or anything. Since you don't play games, the integrated card should suffice for you. With the extended cell, you could get 5 hours of run time. Be sure to get a sleeve or a laptop back pack as the lid will get scratched. Good luck!

yea...the 700m would b perfect for u...u could get 1 wit a lotta space in it...and since u already have a keyboard and lcd monitor...u won't need 2 worry about using a small keyboard all the time or looking at a small screen all the time either..and wit the coupons around...u could get it at a pretty good almost spec'd out for less than $900 or even less..and wit the extra money u can buy other accessories for ur laptop...such as an external mouse...or external speakers if u are going to watch movies on it and such
