I'm going to buy a 700m soon and plan to upgrade the RAM from newegg but I don't know which kind to buy. I want to upgrade to 1GB or 2GB but which model and/or brand should I buy? Something of good quality fits my preference.

It uses PC2700 memory. Kingston, Crucial and Corsair are all good brands.

It should work at the lower speed.

If I recall, I read an article(Wish I could find it) that said.. in a nutshell, although you can use higher speed RAM, it can/could/will actually slow your system down. I am really digging through cobwebs now, but they compared it to not having a consistent pipe to run through and by using higher speed RAM, it actually can casue a bottleneck.
How true is it? I don't know. But, if your Rig is rated for a specific speed.. I'd just stick to what it is rated for.

How much for a 512MB stick (for the 700m), a 1GB stick? Want to see if it's worth it.

Kingston is good, I have PNY in my 9300 right now works well, you can get the PNY for as low as $44.99 here. Kingston should run around $70 or so at NewEgg.

I read a Article on PC Mag saying It DOESN'T matter what brand you run UNLESS its being Over Clocked which I HIGHLY doubt on a 700m running at 2700.

Most ram are all the same but if its a daily user just stick for whats cheaper and more for the bucks.

Go for Crucial or KingMax or what ever cheaper not gonna hurt ya.

PS: I'm in the same situation on upgrading my 700M =P Got it for $680

    1.6GhZ, 256RAM(SLOW as F****),8or9Cell???, Super PI "2min" FLAT @ 2million Digi(Beat that 700m owners!!!)

$680 is a steal for that machine. I assume you used some nice coupon (I don't have the same privilage here in Canada)?
