    Hi all,

My GF's 700m just went completely kaput. I'm a pretty advanced user and I think the mobo is pretty much fried and the LED had a white horizontal line going through it (happened a month ago).

Dell is going to do a dispatch swap computer, but according to the rep, they don't make 700m's anymore, so they're going to send the "next equivalent model" - "like or better" than hers.

I checked Dell's site and, uh, they don't make 12" LCD laptops anymore. I'm thinking they won't send an XPS M1330 since it's an XPS and not an Inspiron and the Latitude series is waaay out of the price league difference.

What computer would they be replacing it with? An Inspiron 1400?

No clue, but it is good that you are getting a new PC out of it.

    Possible options are:
    D430 (12")
    M1330 (13.3")
    1400 (14")

Not sure what you'll end up getting...this will be interesting.

    Hi Greg,
It seems like the D430 is the closest match in terms of specs, but the 1400 is most likely. Kinda sucks though to be a getting a 'bigger' computer.

I think it may still be a M1330 but with integrated graphics like the 700m.

Wait and see what they offer - whatever they offer you can comeback and ask for something better. You can also ask to pay slightly more for the better system. You can discuss a wide variety of options if there is nothing similar to your old system.

Dell should offer something of equal or greater value. Assuming they do, you really can't ask for something better than that.

They will not allow you to add money to get a better system. This is because people would keep doing this over and over every year getting the latest and greatest for only a small amount.
