I was thinking of buying an 8-cell battery for my 700m, but I was looking on eBay for cheap ones. But many of the ebay ones are a "71WHr" as opposed to 65. They all say the part number is C6017. They do say they are made by Dell... But looking on the Dell site, I can't even find that part, so where are they getting these batteries? Would it be okay for me to get one of these from eBay?

I would say it'll work... BUT you dont know for how long. Some of these 3rd party batteries are very affordable (just like cell phone batteries), but some of the times it's "you get what you pay for". Some of them may cause damage (worse scenario), some will actually work perfect, and most will only keep a charge for a limited amount of time. If you dont want any problems, I'd get an original. Dont have to get it through Dell, but make sure it's an original and from a good, reliable source.

But that's the weird part... the sellers say that it's made by Dell, when I can't find these on Dell site at all. So do you think it's actually a Dell battery or not?
-
I wouldn't. Especially if it's not a real part number. Check further, maybe it's a sku number for his company or his uses.

I bought one of the 71Whr batteries you are refering to not even realizing that there was both a 71Whr and a 65Whr. It came in a sealed dell box and as far as I can tell its real. The build quality & labels are identical to the 35Whr that I replaced. It shows up in the battery info in the notbook with correct info. Yet the part no isnt found on dells site.
Does anyone know what the deal is with these batteries? -
Not sure, but I know you should only use the Dell 4-cell or 8-cell. Anything else might produce strange results. Don't get the 4-cell, not worth it. Just get the extended.

The battery indicator says 5.00Hr at 100% charge.

My 8-cell that I got from Dell also says 5 hours I think.

The 71WHr is from Dell also .
