i think im going to get the 700m due to small size and price, but i need to know just what the graphics can do. I play none of the new games, so can anybody tell me how it fares at counter-strike (the original)(yes, sad, i know), starcraft, and maybe warcraft 3? And what about programs such as photoshop and illustrator?

    Thanks

should play those fine i would think. there is nothing sad about the original cs. it is much better than css. anyways, for those old games it should run fine. a friend of mine had older built in graphics and he could play cs with a sxga screen in native

the 700m runs games fairly well. in counter-strike, frames jump from 60 to 5 fps; smoke kills the system. i haven't tested out starcraft, but i'm pretty sure if the games i've tested out like the original unreal tournament can run flawlessly, then i think sc and wciii can be handled just fine.

    playable:
    counter-strike (without smokes)
    gunbound
    maplestory
    unreal tournament
    (maybe ragnarok?)

games i did run into trouble with are:
Need For Speed Underground (just unplayable)
X-Men Legends 2 (rips in the screen)
World of Warcraft (playable, but very low fps)

plan to play games in different resolutions (800x600 - 1024x768) to run much smoother; just don't plan on playing on 1280x800.

and as for photoshop? photoshop cs2 ran flawlessly. problem is i'm not used to widescreen in photoshop just yet.

now starcraft has been installed in my comp.
it run fairly well. so don't worry about running the starcraft.

i think that starcraft is so old game.

If you plan on playing games or using Photoshop much, you should seriously consider jumping up to a 13.3" or 14" screen. The 700M is horribly overpriced, and the increase in size won't slow you down.

    Best,
    Howie

I bought a 700m for my gf last year. Yes you should have no problems with the games that you mentioned. I also tested it with some current games, like The Movies. These newer games will run, but without all the bells and whistles on the graphics side. Your best bet for optimal performance is to get the max amount of RAM, then a decent processor for it.

A good system for gaming in a 14" size would be the Compal EFL-30 and the MSI-1022, both of which have dedicated 64MB Nvidia GeForce Go6400's. You can get them at www.RawPowerPC.com.

it would be great if all 700M/710M users posted what they've been able to run in terms of games and at what settings! :)
