Can you please provide me with advice on my computer crashing? I am running XP Home and it seems to crash consistently when saving an attachment in Thunderbird and also whenever downloading and generally using IE (although FireFox works fine). Any info you could provide would be appreciated.

I would redownload and reinstall thunderbird. Don't forget to save your email messages before you do that. You can export them to a file for easy storage.
For the I.E. problem, if you haven't ran windows update lately, they might have a fix for it in there (not really sure since i don't use I.E.). You could also reinstall it and see if that helps. -
Thanks SouthernGirl. I have all Windows Updates and in particular IE crashing when it is automatically opened via the update process. I will try the Thunderbird reinstall. Can you provide me with any details on unistalling IE? Thanks.

hmm, if IE only crashed when it was trying to do the update process, then it might not be IE. It could be the windows installer or updater.
Is IE crashing on any other sites? -
Yes, it often crashes when performing any other downloads and visiting other websites. How would I know if it appears to be IE but really is not? I loaded it via the Windows XP disk after doing a clean install on my 700m. The computer is only a month old.

In fact perfect example, IE was opened by Thunderbird when I wanted to access the help website for Thunderbird. It loaded the website fine, then when I clicked on a link it froze and crashed.

just out of curiosity...
1. what are your specs
2. have you run a spyware scan? -
k, I did some searching and found a couple of suggestions.
This is suppose to repair IE automatically, but you might need your XP disk. It has to get the dll files from it.
start-->run-->sfc /scannow
