Having recieved my 700M just about 1 week ago, I finally have time to sit down and play with it. One queston I cannot seem to find the answer to is about the video memory.

It is 64mb on board, can this be changed to various sizes or does the system simply allocate the size automatically. I have checked the bios, software settings, but cannot find anything.

    Can anyone help me out

    Thanks

It uses an integrated video card. It draws video memorry from the system memory. Usually you can change it in the bios.

Yeah, that's what I thought as well, but cannot see anything in the bios to change video memory, I have hunted high and low through all the bios settings.

i believe that the 700m allocates 64 megs of memory to the vid card at boot and retains it for the session. other integrated cards have the ability to dynamically change the amount of system ram it uses, but i believe this not the be the case for the 700m. you can tell by going to my computer > properties and viewing your system ram. it should show your system ram as X - 64; i.e., if you have 512 megs of ram, your system ram should show as 480 mb. this isn't something you can change.

Thats great, I bought the system with 1 gig of ram, so I was more worried that the video ram was sitting at 8mb or something, and not the full 64mb.

It's good that you bought the machine with 1GB SDRAM. Plenty to go around for the integrated graphics. Btw, how much did you pay for the machine if you don't mind me asking? Did you use a coupon (if in U.S.)? And w/ 1GB is it very quick? No lag whatsoever for everyday tasks including Office applications?

    I bought my system for $2400 Australian, using a $250 off coupon, and $300 off the system price as part of their special, so for $2400 I got;

    Pentium M 2.0 ghz
    1 gig ram
    80gig hard drive
    8 cell battery
    a/b/c dell wireless
    spare 8 cell battery
    deluxe leather case
    Win XP Pro
3 year cover, accident, theft, etc

Currently without coupons and discounts going for about $3500 Australian.

Great deal, I got my Dell I9300 for $2500 5 months ago, currently same configuration going for now without bonuses for about $4700. And I have not seen the I9300 I bought 5 months ago at $2500 Aussie dollars get anywhere near that price since.

I bought both system with massive discounts
