    700M Hardware?

    Hi everyone,

    Just got my Dell 700M - and have some questions about hardware shipped with the lappy. The information I've pulled up is using Sandra 2005.

    1. What DVD+-R drive is shipped with the 700M? This unit shows up with a Sony DW-D56A with 3x read and write...am I missing something here - it should be an 8X unit!

    2. The 60 GB HDD is a 4200 rpm (sigh...) MHT2060AT PL unit. I was hoping to get a 5400 rpm drive - is this normal?

    3. No OS shipped with the package (surprise!). Does Dell ship out the necessary s/w when I call and tell them I'm going to swap HDDs?

    Hi,
    There has been alot of discussion about the 5400rpm issue. From what I've read, you should have 5400. I would call dell and verify this to be sure (I've gotten different stories from their tech support). If its true, then ask for the 5400 as an exchange. Since you are planning on changing out your HDD, they should send you the CDs (3 in total) for free but you do have to request them. Your burner should be an 8x too. All of the info I've seen about the 56A's have said they are 8x, so I would definetly check that out with Dell.
