Don't ask how it happened. Anyway soda got spilled on the keyboard of my 700M.

I took the keyboard off and dried it out, everything seems to be functioning fine except a number of keys don't work. I ordered a replacement keyboard. Anything else I need to worry about?

Thanks so much, as this is my first post here, although I have about 10K posts on the various bmw forums and flyertalk.

LoL!!! Seriously funny **** during an unfortunate circumstance. Sometimes comic relief is the best remedy... Have you tried telling your keyboard a joke?

well, drying it out is really not enough. The acid in the soda will eventually eat through any traces it encountered. Your best bet would have been to remove everything from the computer then rise any component except the HDD in distilled water allowing it to drip dry or even use a blow dryer on low to hurry it along. Then wait a day or two before putting it back together.

BTW, don't feel badly. I once spilled a bowl of seafood stew in a system I was building for a client. Of course I had to scrap the system for a new build but I did the wash it in distilled water thing and got all the sauce off...or so I thought...about a year later it just died. I took it apart and even though I had cleaned it best as I could there was the outline of residue of the sauce. Because of the tomato in the sauce the acid eventually ate through the traces in several places.

Then again I know people who never had a problem after spilling a super gulp on their laptop (it was thankfully off.) I bet though there was some seepage into other parts of the computer.

Either way I would keep a keyboard in reserve in case that goes...

I bought a new keyboard already from Dell, I'm waiting for it to get here.

What did the trip to Club Dell cost?
