i was thinking if i can use a 4 pin s-video cable for my 6400 7 pin mini-din connector? its really hard to get a 7 pin over here.

A 7-pin mini-DIN connector? I haven't seen that before. Why would you want to use it?
Anyway, since it seems to be such an unfamiliar interface it's going to be hard to come by. Your S-Video out on the Dell is a 4-pin -
there are more than 4 pins, but a 4 pin will mate to the port on most new dell laptops.
Dell sells a cable adapter, around $12, that provides a component video PbPrY or whatever the newer component is, and a coaxial digital audio out. The extra pins in your dell svideo out port (more akin to call it a mini din port), provide the functionability to use that cable.
I went ahead and bought one of those hdtv component adapters, really makes a huge difference for output quality of the audio when you have a digital receiver around.
7 pin? 4 pin? cable
