This depends on so many factors that there really is no "normal" per se.

    1. How often do you use your notebook away from a power source?
    2. How hot is your notebook?
    3. How often do you charge your notebook - i.e. what level does the battery get down to before you charge it?
    4. If you had to estimate how many charge cycles your notebook has been through - how many would you say it was?

Then of course there is the unknown "How old is your notebook battery?". Just because your notebook is 7 months old, the battery may be older. Li-ion batteries begin to degrade the very moment they are manufactured, regardless of whether you use it or not.

Blimey, didnt realise it was that in depth. Makes sense though.

I would say 80% of it is plugged in, 20% battery.
I wouldn't say my laptop runs that hot tbh, I don't do any gaming, some films but very rarely do i stress it out.
As for charge cycles i dont really drain the battery that much, so in terms of charging and draining it i wouldnt say iv done many.

edit; Should i be using my laptop whilst its plugged in & fully charged?

Then it does sound as if it is a little bit too much battery wear. Keep an eye on it over the next month and see how much it drops down. Could be that it just needs recalibrating, but I believe you get a 12 month warranty with batteries from Dell - so you should be able to tell if it's getting considerably worse and still have plenty of time for Dell to fix it.

Hi there. First post question :D - what are you using to establish battery wear? I'd like to be able to monitor the battery in my new laptop.

I've just found (on this forum) an app called battery bar, is it that? Thanks.

That's definitely not out of the ordinary, OP. I have a 9 cell battery that is less than a year old which, I sh*t you not, is at 95% wear lol. I'm lucky if I get 8 minutes from the stupid thing.

This is why I only buy low capacity batteries now...the extra expense of a 9 or 12 cell just isn't worth it when you lose half the capacity in just a few months

In my opinion Dell puts some pretty crap-tastic batteries in their consumer models. I dunno how it is in "business-land", I would hope it would be better over there. I fought with Dell for months to get them to replace (under warranty) my original 1537 battery which was ~30% dead after less than 6 months. Finally got it done. The new battery is less than 2 months old and is already showing wear, and I've baby'd this one like mad since the first one went south as quickly as it did.

My previously laptop was a CHEAP Acer (I'm talking sub-$400 cheap) and after 3 years its battery still held practically the same charge as it did on day one. Pretty sad comparison, honestly. Again, just my opinion.

Use...Dell battery meter application and disable charging if ur working on power....If u want to charge....Charge it...and disable charging and use it on power when its 90% +...Because 90%to 100% charging takes a lot of time which i bad for battery health........

What do you people do with your batteries? I have an old d610 with a battery that last for almost 3 hours, thats about 1 hour of loss in 5 years! My 1520 has also not lost more than about 30 minutes in 2 years.
