Hey, I just got my XPS m1330 today and I just installed Vista 64bit.
I bought it with 4GB of RAM and without 64bit Vista, I can only use up to 3.6GB of it. So, I'd rather spend a little time and put some patience into getting everything in working order than lose 10% of that costly RAM.

Finding drivers alone took half a day and I am still having these troubles:

    - The slot-load firmware updater only shows a "can't find the target drive." message. Vista shows it as a Mat****a dvd+-rw drive running on Microsoft drivers.

    - The Creative Audigy Advanced MB software that I bought seems to be useless in 64bit Vista.

    - The most frustrating part is that I can't seem to install any nvidia drivers. It always says that the setup program cannot find any drivers compatible with my current hardware. I tried getting them directly from nvidia and other websites such as laptopvideotogo.com. I vividly remember from booting up the system with the 32bit OS that there were nvidia software on it so I am pretty Dell didn't make a mistake there.

I've fiddled around trying to fix these problems for some time now and ANY help regarding these problems would be much appreciated!

    Thanks,
    wiw

That's because you have a matsuchita drive. The firmware is for a Hitachi.

I don't think anyone has found a fix for the audigy software.

You either have to use the Dell supplied nvidia drivers, or go get a modded inf from laptopvideo2go.

    Good luck!

Thanks for the prompt reply! That really cleared things up with the firmware. I hope that there'll soon be a way to install the Creative HD Audio software on 64bit.

    Regarding this:
I tried getting the ones offered at laptopvideo2go but the installer always gives me that "setup program cannot find any drivers compatible" error and terminates after clicking ok.

EDIT: Awesome, got it to work - after reading the sticky

    Wiw....

Youve gotten a long way but trust me, your not going to put the perfect 64 Bit system together in a day. Probably the most informative thread here for 64Bit is by Trebuin.

You will find that flash doesnt work in the 64Bit Explorer/Firefox...so no video unless its in 32Bit running in your 64bit system.
