I have a small problem with the touchpad on my 640m. You know how it's got those lines on it so that you can scroll by running your finger up/down the line? Well, quite a few months ago I somehow disabled them, and now I'd like to re-enable them. Problem is, the Touchpad tab doesn't show up under "Mouse Properties" in the Control Panel.

Additionally, when I click on "Mouse" in the control panel, I get a pop up saying "Unable to connect to the Synaptics Pointing Device Driver." I find that odd because under "Hardware" in Mouse Properties, it says that the driver is working fine.

I'm not entirely sure what's wrong here, since otherwise the touchpad works fine -- in fact, I'm using it right now.

If anyone has any idea how to fix this, I'd really appreciate your input.

    Thanks!

Do you have any mouse software (such as Setpoint...etc) on your notebook ? They may causes conflict...

Sorry for the late reply! I don't remember installing any mouse software, and I don't see anything in the Add/Remove Programs list.

I also tried to update the driver, but it doesn't seem like there's anything new to install. this is so weird. =(

I suggest downloading the latest synaptics driver (try support.dell.com), and install that. It sounds like a corrupt install or uninstall of the previous drivers. So if there's no option to uninstall anything in your program list, then just install the latest ones over whatever you had.
