So I just received my Dell Inspiron 6400 and I was wondering if the two keys below the touch pad are supposed to be loose but responsive? I mean, mine almost feel "mushy". Should I return or exchange the laptop?

Mine was the same way--I don't think it's a "defect" but it's hard to diagnose a problem through the internet. I can tell you that the buttons my T60 are almost too stiff compared to the buttons on the 6400 (e1505). I think it's something that you'll have to get used to. What laptop are you coming from?

EDIT: I renamed your thread so that it's more descriptive.

I'm coming from a regular Microsoft desktop keyboard and a Acer Travelmate one. So I guess it'll take some getting used to. Thanks for the informative reply because I'm reasurred that I'm not the only one that has the same problem.

Mine are kind of mushy, but it never really bothered me. I rarely use those buttons anyways. When I'm at home I use a mouse and when I'm on the road I just click by tapping the touchpad.

Mine are easy to press, I actually liked that feature about the E1505, and it doesn't make any noise while clicking, so I can surf during class without bothering anyone.

^ exactly. I don't know what you guys are complaining about but I find it a lot better than the clicky types.

In class, when i should be typing up notes, I can browse online without people hearing the click click click of the mouse pads.

not only that but some times I need to use the laptop when people are asleep, and the soft buttons work wonders for not disturbing them.

    Hey everyone,

Thanks for all the great replies. I guess Dell do make pretty good laptops. I do have one more question. I'm a pretty picky person, and the I've noticed that the power button on my new Dell Inspiron 6400 is well, strange. It's strange in the fact that when I press down on it, the right side of the button seems to "give" or "go down" a lot more. Is this normal? I mean, when I press the MediaDirect button it seems to go down equally on both sides of the button. I guess I'm pretty paranoid as I think I've spent a lot of money on this laptop. Thank you all!

My media direct button is the wonky one for me. :p But it's alright as I find that feature useless.

As far as the touchpad goes, I haven't used a better one yet.

But do you think it would be stupid of me to return the laptop or exchange it because of one button?
