    Hi there everyone

    Hope someone out there can help or shed some light on this;

    Hibernate.........Control Panel, Power, Enable HIbernate I get the following message "The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process".

    Dell Quickset - I go through the Power Wizard enabling Hibernation - set it to Hibernate when closing the lid....and nothing!

    Pressing the FN and F2 (Hibernate Key) I get the following; Failed to hibernate as this state is not presently supported. Do you want to enable hibernation now?

    I select Yes and receive the following message " Unable to enable hibernate power state"

    Any ideas ????

    On the dell forums, one person solved it by uninstalling Quickset. Is XP up to date?

    Hi Southern Girl

    Yea XP is up to date - I am a bit hesitant to uninstall QuickSet since I believe trhat if it is uninstalled, pressing the MediaDirect button while windows is on - nothing will happen.

    I am not sure, but isn't the media direct quick launch available as a seperate download from Dell. Also, you can always give it a shot and see since you can reinstall quickset again. :)

    The user reinstalled Quickset right after they uninstalled it and it seemed to work. I'm not sure if Dell has a seperate download for Quick launch or not. I'm pretty sure that they don't or at least they didn't awhile back. This has always been a feature of Quickset.

    There could be several reasons why it isn't working. It might be a XP problem or possibly junkware if you haven't reformatted.

    I would first try uninstalling/installing quickset. If that doesn't work, you might try repairing XP. It is fairly easy to do and takes about an hour. This will fix any registry/services problems. The only negative to it is that you have to update windows after it - it does remove all of your updates.

    Is this the first time that you have tried to get the hibernation to work?

    I'll try to look up some more solutions. Hibernation is just one of those services that is very difficult to troubleshoot because anything can effect that. I have problems with hibernation on mine, and have flashed the BIOS and reformatted XP. Both solutions fixed the problem.

    Hi Southern Girl

    Thanks for the additional info;

    I have reformatted and got rid of all thh bloatware once I got the notebook so XP should be okay.

    Yea this is the 1st time I am trying to hibernate.......a little puzzling though...
